Is there anywhere on the application that I could write that I was my school's prom king? I just want to show that I'm not some kid who sits in his room all day and studies and that I'm actually quite sociable. Maybe adcoms can realize that I'd have stuff to contribute to their university?

it’s completely sad if that’s relevant to your college application

but given what i am seeing how does US of America functions… i wouldnt be surprised

HOW SHALLOW

theres other things that should indicate you dont sit in your room all day and study. prom king is really just a popularity contest, so i dont think it is relevant to college applications

You could list it as an award if you really wanted to.

I don’t think it would help. I don’t think it would hurt, either. I could be wrong, though, so if you believe it will help, yeah, you can list it as an award.

Don’t listen to silliness and cross0328; they’re probably the ones who sit in their rooms all day and study, so they’re just bitter.

I’m not prom king material (I have a lot of friends and am relatively popular, but I don’t consider myself prom king) so it can definitely show a more well-rounded side of you, which a lot of top schools like to see.

Congrats!

Haha I wasn’t trying to be facetious or anything, I was just as surprised as anyone else when I was chosen. Thanks golfer111 :P

“Don’t listen to silliness and cross0328; they’re probably the ones who sit in their rooms all day and study, so they’re just bitter.”

im sorry if i sound bitter but im not, i was homecoming king in high school and on court another year. i didnt put being on court on my applications cuz i thought it wasnt relevant. at my school it really was a popularity contest. i had the most friends and knew the most people throughout the high school and thats the only reason i was king

I’m trying to remember what book I read, but in it an admissions officer bemoaned the fact that a lot of kids list things like "prom court, homecoming king, senior superlatives) in the awards section on their app. He/she said, if anything a teacher will probably mention it in their rec letter as they compare you to your peers. You can even request that they do so if you think it’s an important part of who you are.

More relevantly though, any school where an award like that would be worth listing on an application isn’t one where it’s going to contribute anything to your admissions decision, if that makes sense? At a relatively unselective school your stats will determine your outcome. At a highly selective school where the way in which the awards section contributes to their overall picture of you is actually relevant (you said you wanted to list it to show that you were sociable), you hopefully have better awards than Prom King, because it won’t matter when compared to your competition.

That’s not to disparage your title, I just logically can’t see it contributing to your application the way you’re hoping it will.

List it under awards. For the relatively few colleges that factor such things into admission , it may make you stand out a bit for being popular while presumably having high stats and more serious achievements.

There’s nothing wrong with being popular.

Agreed with Northstarmom

BTW aren’t Prom Kings usually seniors? Or did you defy odds and win it as a junior lol

Prom King is a junior at my school. I’ve already used up all my awards slots so I’ll just put it into my additional info section. Now please let this thread die :P
