So. SENIOR PROM. :-o
Last year I went old school with a black suit, white shirt, and purple vest/tie. For senior prom I just felt like going for broke, but I have no intention of looking like I can't color coordinate.

Long story short, my vest/tie MUST be a bright yellow (basically canary) in order to match my date's dress.

My question is, would an "ivory" suit and black shirt (along with black pocket kerchief and black shoes) be a bad idea with a canary yellow tie/vest?

(I'm Indian, i.e. brown, in case skin color has an impact on whether or not one can pull off a white suit. For what it's worth I'm kind of fair for an Indian... my skin's more mocha than dark chocolate. Wow, I'm a little uncomfortable typing all this.)

So. Does it clash? Does it work? Does it depend on whether or not I can pull it off?
Thanks in advance :)

If I were you I’d ask your date how she feels about that.

I don’t think that color ensemble would be bad at all (in fact I kind of like it), but I’m not exactly heading for Parsons the New School for Design.

Also, I’ve noticed that the guys who pull off white tuxes are confident. If you can rock it, I see no reason not to go for it. But of course get other opinions!

Good luck!

The only issue I can think of is having such a harsh color as the bottom layer, but I really can’t say without seeing it in person, so I’d get your dates opinion.
You could also do gray instead of black, that wouldn’t be as drastic.

Why don’t you get a bright yellow vest with black tux…?

@LakerFan666 and @DrBatman Thanks, good ideas. I hadn’t considered the gray shirt but that might look better, we’ll see. And hopefully I can rock it, LakerFan, I’ll have to get back to you on that ;)

@CrazyPluto No real reason, honestly, except that I kind of like the look of a white tux and was wondering if I could conceivably manage one this year. There’s nothing wrong with a black tux, but why not a white one?
