Prompt Differences

The instructions are clear, but the contents that need to be covered sound nearly the same to me. I know the prompts are intended to be vague, but can anyone give their interpretations on how these two differ (how the admission officers want it)?

Common App: Please provide a statement (250 words minimum) that addresses your reasons for transferring and the objectives you hope to achieve.

Supplement: Tell us what you’d like to major in at Cornell and why, how your past academic or work experience influenced your decision, and how transferring to Cornell would further your academic interests.

Thanks in advance.

They could have the same answers. The common app question is emphasizing why you want to transfer (doesn’t necessarily have to be completely academic response, but it should include academic reasons), and the supplement is mostly asking how transferring will further your academic interests.

Thanks dchow.

So, it’s okay to overlap a bit?

Also…does that mean the common app question isn’t “Why Cornell”? It’ should just be a reason for transferring to ANYWHERE?
