Promys 2011

Is it good if we do 11 including #11?

That’s really good. More than I did lol :)

Don’t worry. I only did 7 :)

that makes me feel slightly better :)

Feel hopeless now…Just worked out 6.5 questions and I’m a Chinese!
I just sent out the mail last Friday and now i have no chance to get into PROMYS this year >< I was really in love with math although i have to confess that i don’t do it so well (AMC 12 for just 100.5 as a junior and still dont know the score of AIME2,but i guess just about 6…) I was drived by the #11 haha…that’s so lovely and i really hope i can still have the 0.00001 possibility to get in :stuck_out_tongue:
P.S. anyone taking AP Statistics test this week? really threatening for me><!

I sent out my application about a week and a half ago and just got accepted! I will probably be going to PROMYS this year, looking forward to seeing the rest of you there! Good luck to everyone!

Congratulations thefoxhunt!
That probably means I’m rejected. I sent mine like a week before Urc and then got a confirmation that my NEW answers arrived around the same time that Urc got accpeted. So if they are already accepting people from this cluster, I’m probably rejected. They probably send rejections after acceptances. Oh well. I tried. Next year, right? :(

bookworm101, I wouldn’t be too worried. I actually think it’s a little unnatural that they sent a reply back so quickly considering the circumstances (maybe they accidentally shifted my application to the top of the stack?) so it might have been just a fluke that they emailed me so quickly. I did email them a few days ago to ask whether they received my application or not though, maybe that piqued their interest.

I thought about this again and I was wondering if they favor girls at all? I know that boys usually take a larger faction of the groups at all math camps, and they might have to fill a certain quota of each gender. Also, I did all 11 questions (albeit I don’t know if they were all correct) plus I drew a cartoon for the kangaroo one (was trying to be cute ^-^).

Be optimistic! And yes, I’m dara from AoPS.

thefoxhunt,
did they reply to your e-mail asking if they received your application? I sent one too a couple days ago and I haven’t heard back from them. I don’t know if the e-mail interested them or pushed me off the cliff of potential acceptance…

^I sent them an email like that too, and a couple days later, got my acceptance.

@thefoxhunt well I’m a girl…and I’m black. lol
also, I DREW A LITTLE PICTURE TOO!!! i thought it was pretty cute, lol :)

After the AP World History exam, I’m devoting myself to the p-set.

Does anyone know the percentage of applicants accepted. I am struggling with number 6(arg!). REALLY want to get into PROMYS, after getting rejected by mathcamp…Also, is sending my application by May 15th a bit late?(I just heard back from mathcamp)

rejected :(

Awww :frowning: There’s always next year! I got rejected last year, but managed to get in next year! Hopefully you’ll get into HCSSiM at least :)

@mitboundtheta
The average acceptance rate is 10%-ish so I heard.
@bookworm
Don’t worry, we’re only in 9th grade after all. Apparently the chances are much better for 10th and 11th graders. You’ll definitely get in next year. :slight_smile:
My rejection back-up plan: Get a meaningful job over the summer and learn as much math as possible from books.

@bookworm, urc: How many problems did you guys answer?

I’m sorry bookworm! D: It’s always a little tougher for underclassmen, I’m sure you’ll get in next year.

To bearz8, I was not emailed about whether they received my application or not, they directly emailed me about the acceptance.

I may just be a CIT for the YMCA if I get rejected from HCSSiM too…or shadow a doctor at a hospital with my friend since I wanna b a doctor… I refuse to dwell on the little things. There are always options!

hello! I am also applying to PROMYS. I have a question: on the website it says that the student deadline is May 15, but on the application itself, it says it is may 31. Which on is it?
