As previously mentioned, it is probably a good idea to stay on the safe side and go with May 15th. However, judging by the fact that today is May 14th, if you haven’t already sent in your application you should send it ASAP and, if the faculty at promys say that you are too late, just say that you were confused by the differing deadlines. They’ll probably forgive you after that. :)

^ if they think that its too late, they just wont reply at all.

I suppose I hadn’t thought about that…
Well if you haven’t sent it out already perhaps add a note about the confusing dates, if that still doesn’t work then you can either e-mail them for a confirmation or something. Best of luck to you! :)

31st, lol.

my tracking told me that my application arrived last monday …
they havent sent me a notification letter yet …
im nervous …
should i send them an e-mail asking if they received my application ?

They won’t send a notification letter unless you ask. You probably should email them.

sigh okay i just did =.=
i hope i get in :(

anybody else in the same position? I thought I had answered at least 7 of the problems. sigh.

If anyone is still wondering about their application:

I sent mine in May 3rd. I asked for a confirmation email May 4th, received confirmation email May 15th. Accepted May 22nd.

I typed all of my solutions using LaTeX, amounted to about 25 pages single sided (I wrote a lot of explanations, etc…) I solved all of the problems except second part of 2 and second part of 6. Took me the entire spring break, like 3 hours a day, to finish everything including the essays and stuff ><

However, my friend submitted his applications around the same time as me, but he got accepted about 2 weeks earlier than me…

So I don’t think there is any fixed date after which “you have no chance”. Good luck to everybody that is still waiting for a decision!

(if anybody has anything to share about their PROMYS experience last year, I would greatly appreciate it! thanks!)

I wrote in the short answers why I chose 4 of the 10 problems (5 if you include #11) and did a lot of extensive work, providing a lot of conjectures, all my work and experimentation. I think I chose the longest 4 because the 4 problems came out to be ~30 pages. I most likely got rejected because I only did 4.

Hey, I was hoping to get some insight from previous PROMYS participants. I was mainly wondering how the free time in this program was. Like, do you have free time during the week, or just the weekends? Also, what do most kids in the program do in their free time? Finally, I just read that the program doesn’t allow students to bring their own laptops. Was it difficult to cope without it, meaning, was the computer access provided by the school enough?

in previous years i’ve read on forums that students brought laptops so…maybe they instituted it this year? :/

anyone receive further information packet describing residence life, safety and student health information, etc after confirming your spot?

yup got it about a week ago

The PROMYS 2011 facebook page is finally up! Anyone who is going to PROMYS this year should join the group and greet your fellow campers. You can also ask as many questions as you like about PROMYS and we’ll have 20+ experienced alumni/returnees who are able to answer them (maybe at least half of them will be too lazy to…).

(copy and pasted from AoPS)

Is there anyone who got in who thinks they might not be able to go ?! I’m an alternate and I REALLY want to be able to go… d:

My friend isnt going.

Did he/she confirm and then decide not to go or no?

im not sure ill ask him
