Promys 2013

Ummm ~“health shouldn’t be a priority”! What! I definitely don’t want to go away to be exhausted and starving. I also wouldn’t be useful at all—mental acuity and all.

My guess is health is being used slightly differently by different people here. I was a counselor at Ross and while we didn’t want students to spend all day body building staying healthy is definitely important. If students lifestyles were seriously unhealthy the counselors would intervene and I’d be pretty surprised if the same wasn’t true at PROMYS.

UMTYTP student is exactly right! Of course staying healthy is important, but it shouldn’t be the MAIN focus of PROMYS-- the math should be! There’s definitely enough time in the day to eat right and exercise (morning runs, evening runs, going to the nearby athletic center, etc). Ultimately, it’s left up to the student how he/she chooses to budget his/her time.

I haven’t received my decision yet…and I’m from Europe… is that bad?
I really want to get in…

@andreea29 Don’t worry they wouldn’t just leave you hanging. I think they’re sending replies out alphabetically, if that makes you feel better. You could send Adam an email asking though. There’s no surefire way to get in- the number of problems doesn’t matter as much as the thought process that you show.

If you get in you should go! Don’t be deterred by the number theory- there’s no pressure to finish everything or to learn everything so (in theory) you shouldn’t get all stressed out. the math requires an interesting way of thinking. it’s fun and I’m sure it’s applicable later in life
Plus to all y’all who complain about being healthy- it’s a lifestyle choice. If you want to run, you can run. If you want to sit on your ass all day and eat cheezits, that’s cool too. you can sleep at 9 PM if you want (I guess not on friday nights though haha) or at 6 AM that’s happened before :P

Admitted students, join the group here! https://www.facebook.com/groups/193233080828368/

Request sent!
Dayummm am I actually gonna be one of the few gurls? :P

Congrats to the accepted! I haven’t been accepted/rejected yet but I’m curious- how long were your essays and answers to the problems. I didn’t really write full essays, just paragraphs. My answers totaled 13 pages, though each question varied in length- is that too short?

I was accepted on Monday, and I’m definitely going.
facebook group is relatively empty now, except for one “hi” post which no one seems to want to reply to…

@dredre803, I handwrote the entire application.
for essays, I just answered really briefly on the sheet and I heard essays have to be really bad to make a difference.
for problems, I had only 5 pages with very small but neat handwriting.

@Mojo377 are they sending decisions out alphabetically by last or first name?

Just a guess, but I think by last name. It made sense with the order some people I knew got decisions

@mojo377, I highly doubt that they are sending decisions based on your last name. There are acceptancees that have last name initial C, and I know a bunch of people whose last names start with letters towards the end of the alphabet.
My guess is they are reviewing applications based on when you submitted you application

has anyone STILL not received a decision? i’m getting anxious even though i know i probably didn’t get in…

@zapowneryi, the last day for sending decisions is monday, 5-27

@andreea29, how do you know?
also… if I turned in my application in february and still haven’t received the decisions… is that bad?

I got the confirmation email on April 26 and haven’t received any email yet. I wonder is there still chance to get in at this time? Also I’ve sent Mr Howley two emails but haven’t got any reply. Maybe he has got too many in his mailbox?

@sbk5331, I’m from europe and two days ago I have had the interview for the scolarship. They told me they are trying to send all the decisions before 5-27 :)

@andreea29 ah okay… thanks for telling me  hmm… that is weird though… I thought it was rolling admissions so I turned in my application as soon as possible yet people who applied in april still got their decisions…

5-28 and still no decision received… Does anyone know why they are getting delayed?
Also they are not replying to emails or picking up the phone :(
