PROMYS 2018 Application Discussion thread

Noticed that there wasn’t a discussion thread for PROMYS 2018 on cc. Let’s discuss. How many problems did you all sove? How long were your solutions? What kind of math background do you have?

Hi, I solved all problems (I hope at least). I wrote 11 pages of sub-par latex but I´m still pretty proud of my work.

Do you know if we are allowed to discuss solutions or is the application not closed yet?

@bilsen application’s aren’t closed, so we aren’t allowed to discuss solutions. Have you already submitted yours?

Yes, I submitted mine yesterday because I wasnt sure if I could submit today. This was to PROMYS europe by the way.

I’m applying to PROMYS boston, so I guess the deadlines are different

Makes sense. How´s it going with the problems? Are you hand-writing or typing?

Using Latex right now, but I’m not so great with it haha. I’ve been making diagrams on photoshop to supplement some of my solutions also.

Me neither. One piece of advice I can give is to use GeoGebra if you want to make simple geometrical illustrations.

do you guys think it matters if you hand write or type the solutions??

@mastersk they say on their website that it doesn’t matter, but if you don’t trust your handwriting (like me), then I would recommend typing them

Have they said when they’re going to release decisions yet?

@MerlinManatee May 15 for US iirc

Hello! I solved all of the problems with about 13 pages of latex. Do you know if we’re allowed to share our solutions now that the deadline is passed?

@glorifiedelbow if we are to discuss, we should do it through PM rather than through forums

@pdk304 yeah good idea

@pdk304 how do we PM? I just joined this site and can’t seem to figure it out

Hi! I’ve also solved all 10 problems, but through quite a few more pages of working than others :/.
Can I join you both to discuss solutions? @glorifiedelbow @pdk304

I attempted all 10 among which 7 or 8 full solutions and remaining partial solutions (or am not sure if my solution is correct). Can I join too in the solution discussion? @glorifiedelbow @pdk304 @dakneela

@hs2020kid I would add you but I still don’t understand how this site works. @pdk304 could you add him to the discussion?
