Proof of Funds for Student Visa

I have a question for any of you that have been studying as a full-time student overseas that are currently American citizens. Do you have to prove funds available up to three years in advance? This is what people are telling me, and my daughter is looking to study overseas, though we certainly cannot provide that kind of proof right now. Just wondering what people are finding when it comes to getting Visas. I don’t believe the universities are requiring this, I think it is a governmental request. Any input would be great!

My daughter had to show proof of $1500 in her bank account. She printed out a copy.

Depends entirely on the country- what country are you looking at?

I agree - depends on the country.

We had to show proof of $8000.

My son just did this for Sweden. The biggest hang up was that he had to be the only name on the account for them to accept it. Then they needed a current statement, which PNC bank only runs once per month. He got them to right a letter saying that he had the required money in his account and he was the only name on the account but that wasn’t good enough for the Swedes. It all worked out in the end, but it did take us 3 weeks to get the appropriate proof. Don’t wait on this part of the requirement.
