I'm living in Australia atm and I'm moving to Andover for my sophomore year this fall. I'm also planning to apply to unis in America and I'm wondering if they will doubt my job experience in Australia and if so, should I bring any reference letters etc to substansiate these claims?

I worked in a grocery for 2 year

I tutor kids privately

Internship at Goldman Sachs (maybe...working on it till September)

I heard its a honour system but I'd hate for Harvard etc to doubt I worked in a grocery and ask for a reference point or number which I would have deleted or forgotten.

haha, i find it kinda funny that you’re moving from australia to andover (massachusetts, i’m assuming), because i’m from andover and i want to study abroad/possibly move to sydney! :P

anyways, i highly doubt harvard will ask you for grocery store references. maybe if something sounded iffy, they might call your school for references, but we work mostly on the honor system here… you still wouldn’t want to make stuff up because the risk of putting one extra EC won’t help you anymore than vs. the possibility of being found out and immediately blacklisted

Yeah, I’m going to Philips Andover this fall and Sydney is pretty good! Yeah, but I don’t understand how I’m meant to prove I tutored a kid or worked at a local grocery store because my school doesn’t know I worked either job. They don’t know anyone’s job unless a student casually mentions it to a specific teacher and even then its no big deal. What do you think I should do?
