Proof-reading can mess up?

Hi,

I have this query on proof-reading essays. All the colleges advise the applicantss to proof-read their essays before they push the 'submit' button of the application portal. They ask the applicants to ask their parents/friends/teachers to read their essays. Now-a-days, there are many websites that help the students to look for careless errors in their essays, for instance, the Essay Forum, Term Paper Writing, Essay Editing, and Research Help.

Here people submit their essays and have those checked for errors in a few days. The essays are really the genuine works of their writers. BUT the colleges check for plagiarism with their web-systems and to catch cheaters.

There are students, the first-generation ones (to be more specific), who do not have others to have their essays proof-read but themselves. They submit their own work. Is there a possibility that they may be mistaken for cheaters?

I would strongly advise you not to submit your original essays to any person or website who keeps a copy of your work.

There are plenty of non-parent sources for proofreading, such as trusted teachers at your school. CC’s Parents Forum is also a great resource, as there are many parents who are willing to read and comment on college essays. Further, the admissions office will not deny admission solely on the basis of a few grammatical errors in an essay.
