How do you guys get your papers proof read? My english grammar is horrible, since it's my 3rd language. I always lose points for multiple grammar mistakes, or I'm not too clear when trying to argue a point. Do you guys use an online proof reading service, proof reading software, or visit the student writing center? Thanks

i’ve never been, but supposedly we have a great system going in the student writing center (chavez building methinks?)

if i were you i’d definitely check that out first before paying for an online proof reading service (probably a rip off).

Definitely check out SLC. Although I never went before, I heard they have a fantastic number of resources and free advising. Be sure to take advantage of them.

By the way, it’s proofreading, not proof reading. I clicked on this thread because I thought you were having trouble in math, lol.

I’ll check it out, are they open during finals week? But you guys haven’t answered my question. How do you guys get your papers proofread? And sorry about proofreading, I was hoping to attract more math and science majors, since they are probably bad at English also haha

I just looked at their website and they do not provide proofreading. The SLC writing program helps people write better in all stages of a paper but I just need a proofreader

I’m sure the SLC would not mind “proofreading” your paper since that is an aspect of writing a paper in my opinion ;).

Normally, I get my friends/roommates/parents/whoever has a higher or equal education level to proofread my papers. Granted, I haven’t had to write a serious paper in over a year.

ive done #25 for about 4 hours today…and then got myself a crepe “brainfood”…lol

hahahaha I can’t tell you how much of that I actually do. I make empty promises to myself regarding writing the paper. I’ll treat myself to something and then I have to get it done. And then I find something else to occupy the time that I should be writing.

I don’t mind paying for a proofreading service, because it’s essentially an investment into your future. Good papers will land you good grades which will land you into good schools and land you into good jobs. The online services have PhD and Master’s level editors looking at your paper.

Sometimes it helps to proofread by yourself. Of course it’s difficult to spot flaws in grammar this way because you wrote it yourself. Someone told me to proofread my own papers backwards (read the last sentence, then read the second-to-last sentence…) to better spot grammar errors.

I usually find it helpful to read what I have written aloud. Helps me catch many errors.

I’m a blind deaf mute though. Anyways, I spent about 4 hours looking for online editing services. Scribendi is suggested to be the best one. The rates and speed are decent, especially since I’m on a time crunch.
