Proof

I've already known that. I think people can promote uchic for its intellectual atmosphere without unfairly portraying other fine schools as "party" ones with no intellectuals. That's my 2 cents.

The amount of crazy econ majors here does bother me a little (luckily it is still early and they havnt been weeded out to other majors yet) because I actually have interest in economics and dont like that getting lumped in with the crazy moneygrubbers that the GSB is famous for (not that the GSB is bad at producing those types of people)

It is amazing to see the difference in how the students look at the GSB compared with students in the college. It is like comparing black with white. And if you go downtown to the U. of C.'s Gleicher Center, the GSB students look even more different. They don't look like intellectuals at all, and they are always wearing suits, as they are constantly having interviews for jobs. It makes me think that going to B-School is not about learning It's about getting a job so one can make loads of money - which it probably is for 99% of the students.

Okay, econ is not the same as business.

at UChicago it is for many people (since there is no business major).

Don´t forget that Indiana Jones´character supposedly is a professor at the UofC, and that scene where he jumps out of a window was inspired on a real UofC professor, I hear

Wrong. Indiana attended U of C but taught at Princeton. His character, however, was based off of a U of C professor.

If I recall correctly, the Indiana Jones character was not a U of C professor, but was a U of C alumnus, who studied archeology in the the 1920's. I believe in the first movie the reference was to where he earned his Ph.D. I remember as a Chicago grad student the theatre erupting in applause (alright perhaps erupting is too strong a word, but it was unexpected and spontaneous) when the reference was made. We all agreed that the I.J. character was a good representative of the typical U of C grad student. :)

Indy was on the faculty of Barnett College, located in NY (I doubt it really exists). His father taught at Princeton.

thanks for the correction and the added insight!

So did a U of C professor actually jump out of his classroom window?

I'd love to hear that story! :D

Um....yeah? Why is this such a shock?

Though nothing to do with jumping from a window, this is one of the people Indiana Jones was based upon.
