Hi guys,

I'm out of stater studying at Cal. how l was wondering how the failure of Prop 30 will affect the tuition for out of staters?

Yea. It’s gonna go up by about $8000

Don’t worry, it passed.

Prop 30 money goes into the general fund. None of it is earmarked for any schools, much less the UC system.

Well…it will somewhat mitigate tuition hikes for UCs (at least we hope so !)

[Proposition 30 In California Could Determine The Future Of Public Higher Education In The State](<a href=“HuffPost - Breaking News, U.S. and World News | HuffPost”>Proposition 30 In California Could Determine The Future Of Public Higher Education In The State | HuffPost College) explains it better. Had it not passed, the impact on UCs would have been worse.

“Depending on how voters decide, education in California could finally begin to see a restoration of funding, or at least the end of years of devastating budget cuts.”

I have heard that Prop 30 basically slows down the rate of increase of tuition hikes, though this was from a less than credible source (Chancellor Birgeneau).
