I am afraid that if I don't pull this off correctly they will ridicule me or scorn me. I want to find a subtle way to tell people "I don't desire your friendship" without angering them or offending them. Can it be done?

Report the acts of kindness to your dean.

Tell them you are a homosexual.

Tell them you’re unintelligent.

Why must you tell someone you don’t want to be their friend? It’s impossible to “break” off a friendship and not have the other person be angry.

Lol to the first three replies.;p

Maybe you should just give them away to like Lakrosse or another CC member.

Just ignore them, I guess.

But also keep in mind that having friends is a GOOD thing!

Not for me. You see, if I have friends I am forced to hang out with them and talk to them, or else something’s wrong with me. If I don’t have friends, I can go happily about my business.

Fresh out of lurkerdom, and I’m already a psychologist. (But really, I like wikiHow.)

[How to End a Friendship - wikiHow](How to End a Friendship: Expert Tips (Including What to Say))

That’s not what I meant. I am not talking about ending current friendships. I am talking about not letting new friendships begin.

If you don’t want to start a relationship, just keep to yourself. In the grand scheme of things, it’s probably not the best thing it the world, though.

Stop giving pmvd advice. He’s never going to listen. It’s best to just keep ■■■■■■■■ his threads for the lulz.

Anyway, I doubt anyone’s trying to be his friend anyway. This is all a ploy to further his CC character persona.

If you’re that depressed (referring to all your other posts) and feel your life is meaningless, having friends will fill the hole! Every time I’ve ever been depressed, friends have fixed it.

Can someone just re-direct Pmvd’s College Confidential bookmark to Fmylife or something?

Tell them that you’re gay. This could backfire but if it does just go with it. It’s college, experiment a little.

If you do not want to have anything to do with other people why do you care if they ridicule or scorn you? Why are you concerned about angering or offending them? You might ask yourself whether it is really solitude you seek - or are you merely attempting to avoid others because you are uncomfortable around them and do not know how to behave? From some of your posts, you make it sound like you are on a mission to cut yourself off from all of humanity.

My guess is that you really do not want to cut yourself off completely from humanity - or you would not be concerned about the feelings of others. Or, if you THINK you do, you really do not have any idea what sort of life that would be. Picture the autistic person who has absolutely no language, no ability to communicate with others, and is locked in his own world. Could the person you are right now survive if all your abilities to communicate and interact with others were suddenly taken away from you? Would you really prefer this sort of existence?

There is nothing wrong with being an introvert and preferring your own company over the company of others; not everybody needs or requires lots of friends. But at the same time, you are also a PART of humanity, and you understand and share the same feelings and emotions as others; you owe it to yourself and others to focus on finding ways to overcome your own social fears and insecurities, rather than on finding ways to “nicely” reject the social overtures of other people.

Get a life already, freak.

XSteven, are you talking to EECool or the OP?

EECool, let it rest. There is no reason to be that big of an ass to someone who clearly is going through a hard time and who clearly has self esteem issues. True, CC is not the place that can fix everything for him, but there’s no reason for you to be that big of a jackass.

well, since you’re not him, the question still goes unanswered.

Right on.
