"Proposed area of study" fields on applications

<p>Quite a few of the colleges I'm applying to ask for "proposed area of study," usually asking you to rank your top 2 or 3. I have a series of questions about these, and I'm hoping you guys can help.</p>

<p>1) What if the fields I'm most interested in are not listed? For example, my top interests are aerospace and biomedical engineering. Often, I see "Engineering" and "EECS" and "Civil Engineering" as options, but not my two interests. Do I simply select the Engineering option?
2) In cases where specific types of engineering are options, is it better to list both types of engineering and then another field (if there are three), or is it better to just list one and list other fields to seem more diverse?</p>

<p>1) Pick the closest one.
2) If you do like both types of engineering more than the third field, then say that. In other words, just be honest about it.</p>
