hey
do the colleges prefer students who apply early....?
for example if the deadline is like januray 1 and ur apps make it in on lets say december 20 something, are ur chances of getting in and MoreImportantly of getting merit scholarships adversely affected?

i would say they want people to apply early so that all the hectic isnt there for the end of the year.

you probably have more of a chance getting scholarships/aid too.

depends i would say. many colleges don't even consider international ED applicants at all for financial aid or scholarship. i dunno about U.S citizens, since I am an international student..hope it helps

If the college goes off of rolling decision then you might be admitted quicker. But if it is one of the UC schools then it won't matter. They just stack up the applications until Nov 30 and then they start reading them on that day. And then there are some schools that only consider you for scholarships if you you apply early like USC, their scholarship deadline is 10 or 20 days earlier than their reg deadline.

Not really. All of the colleges...well...most of them literally throws all of the applications in a pile and starts reading them AFTER the deadline.

btw the UC's don't start reading till Jan. I called since my SAT scores won't be in till after the deadline, and the lasy was like, "relax we don't start reading till Jan, so don't rush your scores"

If a college has rolling admissions (majority in US), where they review and admit as applications are submitted, it is definitely to your advantage to apply early rather than late (some programs at the college can even be filled before those last minute apps come in). Also, many colleges require early apps for you to be considered for any scholarships. Otherwise, for colleges that wait to send out all regular admission decisions between February and April, it does not matter when you apply as long as it is within the deadline.
