Pros and Cons of Applying SCEA

Hello, All! I am interested in applying to Princeton University Single-Choice Early Action. I plan on being done with all of my tests by the end of October. I don’t have a remarkable or mindblowing application, but I do have many academic strengths. Princeton has been at the top of my college list for a while now, so I’m ready to give this application my all. Some people think that there’s nothing to lose in applying SCEA, while others have warned me against it. Is there a reason that it wouldn’t be worth applying SCEA?
I’m totally new to this process, so any help would be wonderful!
Thank you!

The only reason not to apply to Princeton early action would be 1) if you were not a viable applicant 2) Princeton were not your top choice 3) you would not have your standard tests completed by the deadlines. Since it seems you have all the requirements, go for it and good luck!

Actually another reason to not apply SCEA is so you can also apply EA or ED elsewhere. If your family has the means to apply ED you significantly increase your chances to be accepted at a very good school that you may also love. In your case it does not sound like SCEA will increase your chances to being accepted at Princeton.

ED vs SCEA is a Catch-22. Do you want to trade the possibly slight chance of getting a boost to the school you absolutely want most but know it’s still highly unlikely? Or take the real boost to admissions to your second choice school which might tip you into an accept but means closing out the chance for that first choice? That’s a choice you have.
