Pros and Cons of De Neve

Can you guys list the pros and cons of residing in De Neve? Also since, many first-year who wanted to get a hall (myself included) were place in De Neve, you think that meeting other first-year will be easier. Also do first-year students intermingle with the second, third, and fourth years student fairly frequently or do they look down disdainfully toward first year students?

Well I got into De Neve also, and I see it as a good thing.

First off, the buildings are smaller but close together, and the floors in some of the buildings (I think A and B are smaller? I don’t remember… the floor plans are on the website somewhere) are not as small as you’d think.

Second, yeah, I think a lot of freshmen got in there (I know 5/7 kids at our school did) so that shouldn’t be a big problem either.

Finally, De Neve is literally right next to Dykstra Hall, so I suppose you could make some friends and hang out over there if you want, and I think a lot of people over there eat at De Neve since it’s so close, so there will be freshmen all over the place.

More knowledgeable opinions are obviously better than mine, but that’s the vibe I’m getting.

Anyhow, hope your decision goes well!

de neve is fine. you will meet a lot of people anywhere.

Thanks you guys. Still would be nice to receive a pros and con list though…

Pros:
Hotel-style living.
Very comfortable (and private bath probably)
It’s fairly NEW.
Right next to bruin walk/close to classes.
Good dining hall.

Cons:
Can be less social (but if you’re outgoing then this won’t be a problem)
*Can’t think of any other cons.

De Neve is just really nice.

I heard De Neve is the most social of all the plazas. Sounds like a good place to live in, but I don’t like its cost. =[

Pros:
Private bathrooms (sometimes shared bathrooms)
Air Conditioning (that you can control for your room)
Newest of all plazas
The most social of all plazas
Dining hall in the building, as well as 2 computer labs, and an auditorium
Some classes and events are actually held in De Neve, so you don’t have to walk far

Cons:
Small room sizes (slightly bigger than residence halls, slightly smaller than suites)
More antisocial than halls
Expensive (it is roughly the same price as suites)

Is De Neve only SLIGHTLY bigger than halls?

Are there room dimensions somewhere?

Are there any pictures of the rooms in De Neve? Can’t seem to find any on google.
And how many people live on one floor?

There is a question about room sizes on “Ask Housing” on the UCLA housing website and the answer gives all the roomsizes. They are very close to being the same sizes, except for the suites which are bigger. De Neve is a little wider (by about a foot or so) but the rooms also have their own bathroom which makes them a little larger I guess as I don’t think they are included in the actual room size. Actually I’ll just post an example here:

DeNeve Plaza 11’x12’
Rieber Terrace 12.5 x 12.10
Saxon Suite 14’11 x 11.9
Res Halls 12.5 x 10.6

Rieber Vista seems way better than De Neve. The room is much better
