There is a school project on what college we want to go to and i thought of west point so i want to know some pros and cons of the college.
Pro - free (you actually get paid while you attend), great traditional liberal arts education, assured job coming out of school
Con - That assured job could be in a war zone, mandatory service for a number of years, no flexibility on school times/dates (2 weeks off at Christmas, 2 weeks for spring break, 3 weeks over the summer), mandatory intramurals and formations (marching and inspections).
Pro – still trying to think of one.
Con – the potential for the ultimate sacrifice. Nothing like the prospect of death to put a damper on a college.
Pro- you will learn how to be a leader at a very young age, you will graduate debt free and employed, one of the strongest alumni networks
Con- you are going to move every 3 years while an officer, it is not easy
As far as pros and cons of being at West Point currently
Pros:
tuition paid for
paid monthly
teachers are almost always available and helpful
really great opportunities to join a club or be on sports teams
chances to travel to cool places and do cool training (airborne, air assault, combat diver, chilean mountain school…)
semester abroad at other military schools
good people, for the most part
Cons:
plebe year can be really rough
mandatory training on some weekends
always a competition to get the best GPA possible
risk of injury is high
may not get the branch or post you want
5 year minimum commitment after graduation
uniforms are uncomfortable
There are definitely more pros and cons which others have already mentioned. These are just a few of the smaller, maybe pettier ones that apply almost on a daily basis. Hope this helps
