<p>I'm not excited to attend UCR but I guess it's okay cuz I might transfer after 2 years. I heard Riverside is super hot in the summer and that is one of the reason I don't wanna attend UCR. Plus, Riverside is boring I think. Not much places to go. =(
I took a tour of UCR and it was okay, but I've seen other UC's(such as UCLA & Berkeley) that are nicer. However, I like how UCR is HUGE. I like big campuses. :)
What are the pros & cons of UCR? How are the academics & professors? Dorm life? The students?</p>

<p>UCR is probably harder than you expect it to be, so don’t think it will be easy to transfer out of just like that. Community college is a better option if you cannot see yourself staying for all four years. I know some people from UCSC who were planning to apply to transfer, and most of them now have given up on that idea (either because the school has grown on them or their GPA is not high enough). </p>
<p>Pros: It’s a UC, good professors, close to major cities (internships, jobs after graduation)

<p>college is what you make of it. If you stay in the dorm and never get out you are going not to like. In the other hand if you join clubs and stuff you will enjoy it</p>

<p>I don’t know why people feel compelled to go to a school they don’t like and then later complain about it. There is always CC path you can go with. UCR’s reputation is largely damaged by people who don’t want to be there to be there.</p>
<p>UCRUCR: I wish you can say that to a couple of my friends who are going to Riverside with me,it’s frankly annoying when I hear them complain about the school and constantly talk about how they’re going to transfer out in 2 years.</p>
<p>jeffrey99 i agree with you. i think there are so many people putting down the school that don’t even go to the school, so the process repeats itself where people are taking negatively about the school. there is an account called stayoutofriverside that makes me very mad. in various threads, this person continually puts down the school and makes really harsh statements about the students there.</p>
<p>Sorry if I’m saying negative things about UCR. I’m just not very excited to go there. I have to go UCR cuz I’ve already sent the SIR. I’ve heard so many negative things about UCR and I guess that is why I’m kinda putting down the school. I hope it’s not true of what ppl say about UCR.</p>
<p>The problem is you didn’t have to SIR you chose to go…like what UCRUCR said their is always a CC path you can take.</p>
<p>At the end of the day you basically have to experience the school and then make your opinion.I’m just frustrated with people (not necessary you) making preconceived notions about a place they have yet to take a class at,meet the professors, and/or the people.</p>
<p>I agree with what everyone has already said. UCR has a bad reputation from people who don’t know or haven’t experienced the school.</p>
<p>The professors here are excellent. A lot of them are nation/world authorities in the fields they research. What people don’t know is that all professors for the entire University of California system all undergo the same training/tenure track and held to the same standards. They just go to whatever campus has an open position for them.
And on the professor note, EVERY campus has both good and bad professors. Even this varies, depending on who you ask.</p>
<p>Like professors, there are good and bad students on campus. It just how it is.</p>
<p>So, I second the notion that one experience that school and then make their own opinion. If you don’t want to attend, then don’t attend and waste your time and the university’s resources.</p>

People usually join one or two clubs/organizations so they can focus their time and interests. For some, being in a fraternity/sorority is time-consuming enough.</p>
<p>As for campus size – The population is smaller compared to the other UC campuses, but UCR almost three times larger than UCLA in acreage. It just seems “small” because most of the buildings for classes and housing are concentrated in one area. My orientation counselor told me that that’s actually a good thing because we have more room to expand. Some of my former TAs who went to UCR for undergrad, somewhere else for Master’s and came back for a pHD have said that the campus and city have improved a lot.

<p>Try LA shoot. Homeless people live two miles from UCLA and don’t get me started with USC. The matter of fact is you will be getting the same education here than you ,would lets say UCI. People like to say and put UCR down. A lot of those people dont know that UCR is ranked in and out of the top 100 universities in the world, was ranked as high as 87 in 2006. UCR’s engineering school is one of the top in the nation. It will house the third public and the seventh public policy school in the west in 2011, and then there is the school of medicine. The potential UCR has is tremendous. If a person has an altitude of " This school is bull I should be in UCLA" Then why the f*@k didn’t you get in? It must have been for a reason right? Be thankful of the opportunity you are getting. They’re people that will kill to have a chance for a great education and people bad month their opportunity just gets me mad.</p>
<p>Too be truthful, i wasnt also “very excited about attending UCR” but after SUHP and Orientation i cant wait for school to start and im pretty pumped up about attending ucr now.</p>

<p>Yeah, people complain a lot about the homeless here. I lived in LA too and I’m just thinking, “Don’t even get me started…” I haven’t even recalled seeing a homeless person around the UCR campus. I work in downtown Riverside now and the homeless are pretty much mostly here, haha.</p>
<p>And yes, it is the same education across the UC system. Calculus isn’t going to be more difficult at Berkeley than it is at UCR. Sometimes I get the feeling that students here use UCR’s bad reputation as an excuse to not even try to do well in school.</p>
