Pros & Cons for UCR?!

im enrolled for this fall,. i applied to 3 other UCs which i did not get accepted to :(. many people have a stereotype that UCr is for the “dumb” ones, which i find pretty mean when people “joke” around, but i am looking forward to this semester, really.

The best answer to an insult is to prove them wrong with actions

For those who are actually looking forward to attending UCR:
Ceud mile failte. 100,000 welcomes. (Sound familiar to those who already went to Bear Facts?)

that’s latin

im really excited to go but im not happy with the weather. im from northern ca so i am definitely not used to the heat

Im from so cal and i was not happy with the weather. The only thing good about it was that if you want to hangout at midnight it is still warm outside

haha that because you guys have never lived in the desert. Its not super hot its only like 5 or 6 degrees more than LA and at night it wont be warm it will be chilly you might need a sweater

i don’ think it really matters that it is ho there in the summer cause we won’t be there unless you attend summer school

Keep this in mind, UCR ranks higher than the best CSU (Cal Poly).

cmon guys be proud of our school.

it may be considered the “lower tier UC school”, but it is still national top 100.

Go highlanders! yay

Actullay UCR is a top 200 in the world and ocassionally makes top 100

i believe we are the 89th for the national universities and 40th for public. thats not shabby at all

actually its ranked above many states Flagships ex Utah,Oregon,Nevada

thats right!

so screw you all you haters!

Right now UCR is ranked 89

UCI,UCLA,UCSB,UCSD and USC all have hospitals

So something to look forward to is UCR’s own hospital because UCR will then be ranked in the 40’s within the next two years when its hospital opens in my opinion.

skate8975 sorry to burst your bubble but UCR is not going to get a hospital right of the bat as I ve heard. They are going to partner with a local hospital for a few years. Thats the only way UCR was is still able to afford the Med school with the cuts so an example would be “Kaiser Permanet/University of California;Riverside Medical Center”

Also UCSB doesnt have a hospital
UCLA,UCI,UCSD,UCD,UCSF and i think CAL have hospitals

R’side is awesome. ranks smanks, 2yrl transfer whoblah! attend, explore, think positive, love it! besides, grad school is where it all happens!!!

seriously, this whole undergrad business is just baby steps compared to the amazing work we’ll be doing in grad school!! AHHH can’t wait till grad school, then we can talk abt ranks and honors and research labs and start arguing about who schools who on what! booyeah!!

Anyone who thinks UCR is going to jump 50 places to 40th is out of his/her mind.

Not in two years. Not in 20 years. Probably never going to happen. Just too many strong schools out there.

There are a lot of ***bags there that were talking about how they were going to transfer in two years…the first week they were there. *ing ■■■■■■■■.

Pros (from a student):
Some very good professors
Small campus
Humble student body
Reasonably close to many good things like beaches and LA
Cons:
Not very “diverse” in the sense that you’re thinking (as in, almost everyone’s asian)
Lots of people complain about the school
Godawful terrible city where it is not safe to do anything off campus

By the way, humanities/liberal arts classes at UCR are very easy, and science classes can be very hard. I don’t get the impression that it’s an “easier” school than other UC’s except UCLA and Berkeley, so if you did not do well in high school, don’t expect to magically start doing well at UCR.

And if you’re set on transferring in two years, don’t brag about it to kids you meet at UCR.

I don’t get the whole business of transferring
Why are you spending 24k the first year and like 14k the second year if you’re gonna transfer anyways?
Just go to a CC
You’ll spend only like 3k in those 2 years
