Hey guys! Just wondering what your pros/cons are of DePaul. I know I will have to visit, but just wondering what your thoughts are on the school.

Thanks!

Well I’ve only visited but here is what I took away from that visit

pros-CHICAGO, education based institution not research, no school on Fridays, great facilities including dorms, and it seemed that whenever we met someone in Chicago they had a family member that went to depaul and said depaul helped get them postions at great companies

only con for me is no football team

Oh and I forgot small class sizes. The presenter said that there are no lecture halls that can seat more than 100 and our tour guide said she did not have a class of over 30 this year. BTW the education based institution thing means the professors are there to teach you, not be involved in their own research, so i guess they would be more helpful and involved in your needs as a student.

Cons that I’ve heard, not necessarily experienced myself, are that housing can be a pain. Apparently, if your undergrad, then you aren’t guaranteed housing after your first year. You pretty much have to get an apartment around campus. Then again, this is only what I’ve heard through various forums.

Thanks! :)

here’s a big con - no student life. unless you’re maybe interested in the small greek life here.

Cons:
Quarters go by fast (10weeks).
Housing is not guaranteed after first year.
Alternative housing is twice as expensive.
Lots of BS requirements to fill.
Non target school for finance.

Pros:
Great Professors
Great Location
Small Class sizes
Great name
Strong business program especially graduate.

what does non target school for finance mean?

Depaul is not a target school for investment banking and trading. Target school for most firms in Chicago include Big Ten Schools and Ivy leagues. Looking to go into those to fields, pick another school or graduate with high honors from Depaul.

JuggernautCos0, I’ve seen your posts in the business forum too where you said you went to depaul for economics. You have any ideas about recruiting there for accounting? I’m strongly considering going there for my master’s in accounting. I know the midtiers like BDO and Grant Thornton recruit there, but how about the big 4? I know UIUC is big in accounting, but I don’t want to go to school in the middle of nowhere.

UIUCs program is better than Depaul’s program though Depaul’s graduate business school is highly ranked. But there are alot of great business school’s in Chicago because of that they are strive to compete against each other. I am not 100% sure about how the big 4 recruits or if they recruit from Depaul. I had friends who got jobs at the big 4 as undergrad that went to Depaul for accounting. I know UIUC program is a very good placement rate and being a Big Ten it is definitely targeted by the big 4.

con- school gets out june 15, our at least it did last year, so the schedule is kinda wierd and different from every school i know of

@cross0328 It gets out that late because it is on quarters not semesters. Semesters are 16 weeks and quarters are 10 weeks. Depaul does four quarters a year( 4th being summer school). While most schools to trimesters(3rd being summer school). You have a longer winter break due to this but you start winter quarter in the first week of January. Then you complete it last week or so in March. Then you get one week of spring break and you are back for Spring Quarter.
