I've always been told that it's best to attend an in state college?
Can i have the pros and cons of going out of state?

The main reason is the cost. It is usually cheaper to go to your stte school. Unless your state school doesn’t have your major, I think it is best to stay in-state. Save your money.

I would say one of the pro is that you can fully have college experience such as living in dorms and stuff (since students going in-state usually stay at home).

The cons… hum, you might get homesick (LOL) and there will no longer be anybody who takes care of you like your parents… you have to be very respoinsible which is very hard for someone who live with their parents all their lives.

That’s all I can think of LOL :)

You can have a similar college experience in state or out of state if you’re living in a dorm or an apartment.

Depending on the size of your state and the diversity of the state, you also may be able to experience a new region as easily in state as out of state. Northern California, for instance is very different than is southern california. Going to U Mass Boston is very different atmosphere than going to U Mass Amherst.

The biggest advantage usually go going in state is that an in state public is usually much cheaper than is going to an out of state public college.

i’m going to an in-state school 5 hours away mainly for the education program so i can get certified to teach in new york state. the cost wasn’t an issue for my parents but it’s going to cost them about $17 thousand to send me to school compared to $42 thousand at my sister’s private school.

Pro: Not in Alaska.

It depends on the state university as well.

Very few public schools are worth the oos price tag. William & Mary and the New School in FL are top of the list. They have the most “private” feel. Next group would be VA, NC, Cal, UCLA, MI, Ga Tech. Based on unique programs, history, setting these could also make a good argument for being a value at OOS prices.
