<p>You'll have to be a little more specific about 'someone'. However, remember that college is probably the first test of independence for most people. You should not be weighed down by anyone unless they seriously and legitimately need you, whether it be family, friends, a boyfriend/girlfriend, etc.</p>

<p>Edit: Like if your parents rely on you for their well being, such as if they are disabled or have some problems, they rely partly on your income, or something.</p>
<p>so, it would be juvenile to stay to an instate school rather than pursuing a dream of leaving because of someone? (no matter how much that someone has changed you?)</p>

<p>I'm in Virginia. My guidance department is a piece of junk, so does anyone know what the good computer science programs around here are? I'd like to head out of state, but I have no money and am unlikely to get good financial aid...</p>
