That last comment was really obnoxious even if it was in jest, because we can't all get into UCLA.

I don't know that much about some of these, but this is what I do know about these schools:

UCLA: Excellent reputation, better in CA than on East Coast, big and one of the least personal UC experiences

UCSD: 3rd best in the UC system (generally) 10 colleges that determine distribution requirements and such, San Diego is generally a conservative town although I don't know about the school, the beach is right there!

UCI: Irvine is an ok place in terms of promximity to the beach, but there's only housing for freshmen and the town dies at night, it's really Asian (>50%) and the social sciences building was built as a psychology experiment and has no windows (that was a deal breaker for me,) I actually prefered UCR

UCSB-Great town, lots of parties (playboy's #2 in the country) kind of isolated, everyone lives in Isla Vista, a town right next to campus, lots of bikes, by the beach

Cal Poly-SLO is more isolated than SB, great school, not a lot of funding for non technical majors, also by the beach

SDSU-HUGE!!! Bigger than UCs, parts of campus seemed kind of grungey, but I didn't even take a tour

cal poly is like better than all the other schools on the list for architecture major. it's up there with harvard i believe.

ucsd is known and strongest in pre med/medicine majors, i think engineering as well.

sdsu has strong business program.

uci is a huge commuter school.

ucla has nice campus.

UCLA
Pros: beautiful campus, 2nd best UC (overall academics & prestige), school spirited, great sports
Cons: commuting there to LA is always bothersome, VERY crowded
+also rather competitive (but this could be a good or bad thing depending on who you are)

UCSD
Pros: beautiful campus, 3rd best UC, near the beach, relaxed
Cons: generally known as a nerdy school, la jolla is a stuffy retirement community, la jolla is expensive

UCI
Pros: close to everywhere (ie Disneyland, beach, LA), up and coming UC, great dance program, decent campus
Cons: mostly a commuter school, not a whole of diversity, traffic is a bother too

UCSB
Pros: relaxed atmosphere, has its own beach, beautiful
Cons: notorious party school (but again depending on who you are)

Cal Poly
Pros: great architecture program...uh...sorry that's all i know

SDSU
Pros: relaxed, near the beach, nice campus overall
cons: huge party school (but again depending on who u are)

Good one flopsy. And UCLA is almost a good enough school for its students to adopt that elitist humor.

Maybe I should have added a  tag to show my sarcasm in that post.
Now that I'm back, here's my real response:

UCLA
Pros: Well-rounded in academics, research opportunities
Cons: Smallest campus, low faculty-student ratio

UCSD
Pros: Strong in engineering, multi-college system
Cons: Weak social scene, low school spirit

UCI
Pros: Strong in the performing arts
Cons: Commuter school, boring suburban location

UCSB
Pros: Vibrant social scene, proximity to the beach
Cons: Low student diversity, reputation as a party school

Cal Poly SLO
Pros: Strong in engineering, architecture
Cons: Pre-professional emphasis

SDSU
Pros: Undergraduate business school, older campus
Cons: Overcrowded campus
