I’m debating whether or not to post my stats…
Obviously, I’m afraid that someone from Penn’s AdCom will see them, and then reject me for some unknown CC-applicant-hating reason…

If you’ve posted your stats, why did you?

If you haven’t, why not?

And does the feedback from the other CC members really help?

no, not completely. the people for whom penn is a stretch (like me for example) want to get advice and forecasts. reading that i have next to no chance of getting in motivates me to get my other apps done.

I actually found that posting chances threads aren't really that useful. A lot of people post chances threads because they want to feel secure and confident, and a lot of people know that, and I feel like there are a ton of people who exaggerate because of that.. I wanted an honest opinion so that I could refine my list further, but I had a hard time because everyone was telling me ohh, you'll get in blah blah, which was nice, but not that helpful. I guess it depends on what you want to get out of it.

I wouldn't worry about Penn admissions officers--there are so many applicants, I don't think they would bother matching people on CC up to people applying (whereas I'm sure Ben Golub over at CalTech does think about that kinda thing)

Ben Golub is an admission officer, and CalTech is a very small school, and he takes the time to talk to kids applying and get to know them, so I'm pretty sure he'd be on the lookout for people he's seen post.

well the thing is, that I can't say that my stats are so-so in terms of the entire applicant pool...
But i'm applying to Huntsman...which is SO freakin' competitive that I don't even know what to think of my chances so far

17 and 18 year olds are no where qualified to be judging their peer's chances, period. Most people who post "omg my chances" ask really dumb questions like "omg is a 2350 good enough for tufts?". Its all a joke, really and nobody should take it seriously.

kliuless - If you really want to get an idea, you could do a search on last years official decisions ED and RD to Penn, to see who actually got in, got deferred and got rejected from each school. That was very educational.

Again, in my area the easiest thing is compare by school to past decisions, but I know in some areas there isn't that much of a history.

Don't worry about Ben. He's an undergrad at Caltech who has worked with the admissions committee in the past so he knows the bolts and screws of the whole thingamajigy. So if you want to apply to tech, ask him for chances

wow, I didn't think that anyone from any school would take the time to match up cc'ers with applications and then judge them based on stats and opinions.

Well Brown and Yale adcoms has been tracked before visiting (www.p rstats.com). so that theory is not that farfetched
