Prospective Art History PhD

I just recently graduated from an undergraduate Art History program at an art school and am looking at possible PhD programs. During my undergraduate career, I was consistently highly ranked on the Dean’s List, with a GPA of 3.7 and a major GPA of 3.84. I earned a writing fellowship at a community outreach program that has been recognized by the White House, came in second place for a school based art history symposium, and graduated a year early.

My recommendations come from a highly respected professor who is chair of the department, and two others who are well-recognized within their fields.

However, I have yet to publish any academic work or participate in a regional conference. Does this greatly hinder my chance of being accepted to an Art History graduate program? Specific ones I am looking at include: University of Chicago, Duke University, John Hopkins, and UC Santa Cruz.

Additionally, would my background be detrimental if I applied to an History of Science and/or Philosophy program? What are your thoughts on this?

Thank you!
