Prospective CofC student

Hey CC-- I want to keep this short and sweet, so I’ll get right to the point. I’m a prospective out-of-state high school Junior from Pennsylvania. CofC is on my list of colleges, as I love its location (near the beach and Charleston), social status, and, quite frankly, education.

If I applied to the CofC Honors College with a 29 ACT and 3.5 weighted GPA, as well as with my strong extracurricular background and unique characteristics, could I get in?

I plan on applying to their business school to major in Marketing and minor in communications.

ALSO, although most of the school’s I’m considering are in New York City (and since I want to live there and work there after graduation), is CofC well-known? I want to land a job at a top advertising firm following graduation… Is CofC a good fit?

Thanks

From what I heard from the Honors College Dean, they really market their students. So when you are applying for that job at the firm, you have recs and experience to back you. Basically, because its a smaller school, you have specialized education, personal relationships w/ teachers, and more intern opportunities at the undergrad level which could be beneficial.

Your weighted GPA is a little low for acceptance to the Honors College based on last year’s students that were accepted. If you are looking for any merit aid, your ACT is also a little low. If you’re able, I would retake your ACT to be more competitive . They only accept approx 200 students into Honors and there was a waitlist this year. While ECs are important, your GPA and ACT scores will be what they look at the most . You need to remember that everyone applying to Honors will have good ECs and good stats so you need to be academically competive.
