Why Brown?: open curriculum, awesome students, brilliant professors, lots of positive intellectual energy, lots of open minded people.....very much in contrast with my red state.

p.s. i'm italian

i'm partially italian. but not very much. i basically have ancestors from all over europe. mostly russian and irish though. either way, i can't cook. i've been brought up on microwavable dinners and cereal. haha, i guess college food won't be a huge step down!

brown's food actually isn't (generally) that bad. the brown dining halls were mentioned in the nov 14 issue of time; it talked about universities who support local farmers. basically, brown is replacing some of its fruits and vegetables (like their apples) with those grown by local farmers. instead of fruits genetically bred for long-distance trucking, their apples are more fresh and apple consumption at brown actually doubled upon this apple replacement.

Name: Kara
Sex: female
Location: East Bay, California
Age: 17
Height: 5'2"
Shoe Size: somewhere between 6 and 7.
Hobbies: reading, music, going to shows <333, getting HYPHY, drinking coffee and having long talks, meeting new people, shopping (horrible, I know), and sleeping.
I.Q.: I have absolutely no idea.
Favorite Food: Chipotle tacos with barbacoa and hot salsa. Providence seriously needs a Chipotle.
Personality: charming and friendly
Odds of actually getting in to Brown (on a scale from 1 to 10): maybe 6 or 7? I think I'm a good fit for the school.
Why Brown?: I am an east coast girl and a NorCal girl. Providence / Brown feels like the perfect mix between Berkeley (Thayer Street and Telegraph Ave. are not the same, but comparable). I love how diverse it is, how friendly everyone is, how much everyone there loves it. I love open curriculum, I love that theyhave a great study abroad program and a great International Relations program, I love that it is super easy to double major. I love that the professors that I met are awesome and are like my favorite teachers in HS except more intelligent. I love how pretty the campus is. I love Brown. A lot.

Kara what kinds of shows do you go to? East Bay has a pretty sweet punk scene, from what I've heard--Op. Ivy, DK, Rancid...yea I used to listen to all of that, but now I'm an emokid...you know, like right now I'm listening to the new Silverstein CD. SOO GOOD!

"dude you know, i was looking at the plme website and there aren't that many indians on the photos. watsup with that??"

Satanic Monkey, lol, I wouldn't want anymore of us in med programs. We are starting to take over this whole med. school thing haha.

Um, lately I'm just into indie and dance stuff. I definitely don't go to as many shows as I used to, since they seem to get more and more expensive all the time. When I was younger I used to be into the hardcore and punk scene, but notsomuch anymore - I've just grown out of it. Monday night I saw Death Cab for Cutie and Stars, which was amazing. I might go see Rock Kills Kid, She Wants Revenge, and the Lovemakers Tuesday night but I think I'm broke. We have such an awesome and varied music scene out here, there's like 50+ shows around the Bay every weekend night.

That's pretty sweet; I know what you mean about the hardcore and punk scene (hey, name one person who didn't listen to the casualties like 4 years ago (wait, me!)), but death cab is amazing! I love them! A lot of good bands come out of that area, though, it's actually quite ridiculous.

i def saw death cab and new pornographers last time they were in atlanta :) you like that emo music ram? cool

Haha well death cab isn't really emo...well I don't consider it at least, but I do like them. Never heard of the new pornographers, though. I'm into a lot of the powerpop emo like Houston Calls, Motion City Soundtrack, Hellogoodbye, etc.

i consider death cab too mainstream as well. i don't really listen to emo music either. i've never heard of powerpop emo lol. i m a coldplay nut though, saw them last time they were in atlanta, and considering heading down to florida to see them there since the next tour they won't be stopping here :C

Death Cab hasn't always been mainstream; me and a good friend of mine have definitely been listening to them for the last 2 years. It sucks when favorite bands get popular sometimes because then people are all OMGZ YOU ARE SOO A BANDWAGONER when you aren't. But whatever. I'm happy that Ben Gibbard is getting attention, he deserves it.

imho, Postal Service should be much bigger than Death Cab.

My info:

Odds at Brown: I'd say fairly high. I have solid states and an interesting story. But again, the process is pretty friggin' arbitrary, so I have no clue.
Other: I am far too fascinating to sum myself up in a few sentences.
Why: Brown
1. Open Curric
2. Laid back vibe
3. To some extent, prestige
