Prospective Grad student-Question regarding 'Official transcripts' requirement

I am currently preparing to apply for the fall 13/spring 14 sessions. Currently in the process of finalizing the colleges where i will apply.

I have a question regarding this one admission requirement set by ALL the US institutes i.e. we need to send them "Official transcripts and records" of our previous studies.

This is what getting me flustered. As you all from Pakistan know that we our issued only one copy of our documents such as degrees and certificates etc, and there is no scene of getting more than one copy, how do i manage to send official copies to the institutes when,

a. I am applying to more than one institute and
b. Some institutes state that the transcripts will not be returned !!

It will really help if someone has completed the admission process and can shed some light on what to do regarding this. Thanks !!

Just has to be a copy of a transcript approved by an official (headmaster, principal, counsellor) and sealed. That’s ‘official’ for you.

I’d same issues, actually still have. But few universities asked me to substitute foreign evaluation for that. Like should ask WES or IERF to send them evaluation inplace of official transcript. AND frankly speaking i chose a university that gave me this suggestion only because that solved my problem. Posting here since at my time i couldn’t find a solution online.

vivcious’s advice worked for me. I had my transcripts notarized by my uni’s deputy registrar and they were accepted by all the colleges that I applied to. Thanks man.
