I am currently a sophomore from a small town and Harvard is my dream school. I am taking as many AP courses as I can and I am actively orchestrating the production of a few clubs, forums, and teams at my school. I am also preparing myself for the SAT and have taken the ACT... What else can I start doing in order to increase my chances of getting accepted? What are some commendable programs that I could become involved in or other things that I could start/be the founder of? Thanks :)

I guess it also depends on what you’re planning to major in. I once heard somewhere that “colleges want well-rounded classes, not well-rounded students,” so you may want to put a general focus in what you’re planning to go into. Intern experience would definitely be a good idea.

“Prospective Ivy Applicant” isn’t that 90% of the people on here?

As for SATs and GPA, just get 2200+ for a good chance, 2300+ for a better chance, and 3.8/3.9+ GPA. Nothing we can do for extracurriculars, you just have to find something in your school. I thought that there were no opportunities in my school for “amazing extracurriculars,” but you’d be surprised if you actually look around. You’re certain to find something interesting.

And, you could also start your own club / activity. Especially if its something unique or special, holistic universities love to see things like that.

@Yakisoba @Ctesiphon I am currently working with several staff members towards the development of a canonical literature forum as well as a debate team. Any other things you can think of that would be commendable?

A canoninal literature forum would be interesting. By that do you mean like a bible book club or something of that sort?

@Ctesiphon No it’s basically a compilation of books that have literary merit based on their comprehension level; the idea is to increase exposure for the AP English classes since the books are often a turn off for many of the students
