How much does it matter what you put as your prospective major? I put Government simply because I wasn't sure and I had to put something. However, now I'm thinking it may not be what I want to study and I wish I had put something else to make me stand out a little more.

Does this even matter or am I just being overly paranoid?

you are overly paranoid. Most people will switch majors at least once. They are considering you for the school, not for your career path. It might matter however if you built your app around your intended career path. However, I doubt that you did that so I doubt it will matter.

I would say you are being paranoid–the major box is more for sorting by school (COL, SFS, MSB, NHS) and then by science/math/other, but to the best of my knowledge, there is no particular attention paid to which major you selected, since as necrophiliac said, most people switch majors at least once (myself included).

Trust me, the prospective major does not matter. Many switch schools, let alone majors. Besides, your first year will be dedicated to core requirements anyway, so you will not declare a major until 2nd year. I entered as a marketing/management major and graduated a finance/accounting major.
