Prospective Seas students at Upenn

Hey everyone!
Just wanted to have a special blog for students who plan to attend seas at Upenn.

woohoo for seas! im still just hoping that everyone wont be too nerdy and that ill actually be able to have a social life...

yep me too. I heard that the average gpa is a 2.7
I am extremely worried that I will have to stay in my room all day just to score a 3.0

Any more comments? feel free to input

yeah, somebody make me feel better about doing engineering....please?

the one thing I know for sure is that Penn's seas is as competitive as the other higher ranked schools for engineering. I have heard that the students in seas are extremely bright (I hope i'm not giving a department full of nerds impression) and that teachers know their subject and are willing to help. I have chosen penn over other higher ranked universities but I know I will not regret my choice.

I'm planning on applying!!! lol i shouldn't be posting here...

any other prospective seas student???

penn seas '09

seas '09 as well

An ESE professor confirmed that the average GPA in EE is 2.7-2.8. It will go up as you progress. The graduation average GPA is between 3.2 and 3.3.

Does anyone know the average GPA at other departments in SEAS?

Woot for ESE!!!

I'm definitely excited about 4 years of hell in Philly!

ACK!

2.7-2.8?

I'm going to be the dumbest asian girl alive!

(still deciding but leaning towards!) SEAS 2009

if i study at seas in upenn and after graduation decide to enter wharton for an MBA. what gpa should I have to have a solid shot to get into wharton for a MBA? What other exam will I have to take and what score should I have?

seas 09 here also

to all prospective penn seas--
what is your first choice residential house?

2.7 avg gpa? that blows. i was thinking of taking penn over princeton b/c of the opportunity to dual at wharton, but i guess not. any other good reasons to take penn engineering over princeton?

Yes, BME at Penn seas! You know, I'm scared too about being dumb there (and I will be) but I think everything's gonna work out alright in the end. It always does. Besides, we wouldn't have been accepted if we couldn't handle it. I just have to keep my procrastination at bay, although that'll be hella hard, oh well..

And I visited on Friday for Penn Previews and the kids I saw didn't seem very nerdy at all. They were all normal people-like. Looks like we'll be having alot of fun.

I'm thinking about doing first choice to Hill cause it's closest, has alot of freshman, and it's own dining hall. Then I'll put the Quad in second, third, and fourth. I'm not sure about the others though. But, I know I'm not applying to Gregory or Kings Court. I just didn't like 'em when I visited with the tour.

i did 2 res programs in quad (both doubles), then a double in ware, then double in hill, and thats it

So I'm invading the '09 thread, but I just feel compelled, lol

Don't let the GPA scare you!! First off, I got a 3.8 first semester without doing a lot of work.. granted, i'm not expecting a 3.8 this semester (not nearly.. ) but it isn't impossible, especially if you have a decent high school background (Physics is basically a repeat of AP B, etc). GPA isn't everything, and you'll learn taht quickly. Any grad school knows what Penn is like and what the average is, and they know there is very little grad inflation.. Please, don't choose a school for the grade you're going to get, because a 3.6 at a school with the average of a 3.7 is no better than a 2.7 when the average is a 2.8.

As for housing, i'm kind of partial because I love Hill, but it's just sooo convienient! You can roll out of bed and be at engineering in about 3 minutes (it's literally a 20 foot walk out the door..) and DRL (where all your math, science, etc classes will be) is right there as well.. plus you add in the dining hall.. it really is a nice place to live, and i'm actually going ot miss it next year when I live in hte high rises and have to trek 15 minutes across campus, lol

And not everyone in SEAS is nerdy.. yes, you will get a higher population in SEAS than in say the college, but you don't have to be friends with just SEAS kids! most of my friends aren't in SEAS actually...

SEAS 09!

I went to visit for Penn Previews and everyone seemed awesome :) I mean, there were some really nerdy kids here and there who wouldn't stop talking about their latest venture into their calculus books, but ... other than that, most of the people in SEAS were cool. I'm putting the medical res program at Hill as my first choice because 1) it's close and 2) HOMEWORK HELP :D Also, I heard that going to Penn SEAS makes you a shoe-in (almost) at Penn graduate schools (at least the medical school, which is the only one that I've looked into) and they are some of the best in the country. Finally, it's true that a lot of people in SEAS drop out into the college, but ... the workload is manageable (my friend tells me). See y'all next year :)

PS - if you want to talk, send me a PM and I'll give you my sn :)
