Prospective Sophomore Transfer Student... HELP!

I went to high school in Michigan (meaning I am an in-state resident) and I currently am a freshman at NYU. How hard would a Sophomore transfer be to UofM if I receive a 3.3 or above? Are transfers easier for Michigan residents (such as me)? Would I be receiving an in-state tuition if I were to transfer? Is there rolling admission for transfer students?
I was accepted into UMich for Fall 08 in mid-May and was wondering if that would help me in any way.

Going to high school in Michigan does not automatically make you a Michigan resident, especially because as of now you are attending an out of state school. You will more than likely be required to file a residency application. If you have not already, I encourage you to review the residency classification guide. Residency - Office of the Registrar

There is rolling admission for transfers. If you moved back to Michigan, more than likely you would be classified as in-state for tuition, but it would not be automatic.

The fact that you were previously admitted is a plus. Without additional information on what courses you've completed and anticipate to complete, I can't give any additional guidance on your chances for admission.

I'm currently in the GSP program, meaning I'm taking basic liberal arts classes.

And I am a Michigan resident (license, documentation, etc).

I wanted to begin doing my transfer application during the winter break. I'm slightly thrown off by the fact that it's a rolling admission. Do I have a significantly smaller chance of getting it in if I turned in my application in early January?

I like your chances. A 3.3 GPA from a top university like NYU is solid. Definitely submit your application ASAP.

i'm also in the GSP..i'm a freshman and want to transfer to michigan as a sophomore. i have a question though..how do you know your GPA already if you're just a freshman?
the application is due in february and our grades dont come out until december...

I just got accepted as a transfer for winter '09. I'm attending WMU right now but was at Holy Cross last year and got a 3.89. HS scores sucked - 3.0/27act - but like i said. I got in. Um, as far as residency - i lived in MI almost my whole life, was born in VA but moved here a year after, but since i was out of state for my soph year i had to file for residency. Pretty much they just need documentation stating why you are filing for residency if there is anything which would characterize you as an OOS - going to school out of MI for even just 1 school year means you need to file for residency.

I am hoping they switch me from OOS to in state b/c i switched to save on tuition b/c i want to go to law school.... so i hope i get the instate.

As for admin - it is rolling, I submitted my app 9/2/08 and was accepted 10/16/08 - most people have not heard back yet so get it in early and you'll hear sooner.

If you have any other Q pm me and i can try to help

I applied as a soph transfer Aug 10, 2008 , heard back 10/16/08. got accepted into LSA . Already put my deposit down , and can't wait to start in the winter . It was a great feeling making my email and seeing the words @umich.edu at the end !!!

Thanks guys.
Does anyone know if they are generally okay with switching kids from OOS to In-state? I really hope so.

Jotsko, why are you transferring? New York City not for you? I've been thinking about transferring from Michigan to NYU. Not because I don't like Michigan, but I'm from New York and have realized that I'm a "city slicker" at heart. Michigan's academic strength is hard to leave, though.

can u transfer during your 1st year at another university? or do i have to wait 1 year?

what is the avg gpa for transfers?
