I am currently a senior at my local high school and a student at Chesapeake College through the dual enrollment program. My senior year I am a full time college student, which means I do not go to my high school at all, I take 4 classes at the college instead. I will be graduating in the spring 2016 with 35 college credits all which transfer and I am applying to the University of Maryland for the fall 2016 semester. After researching the college, I found on the UMD website that if you have completed over 30 credit hours, you would be considered a transfer student. Is this true for dual enrollment students? Would I apply for undergraduate freshman or transfer?
I think transfer students are high school graduates (at time of application) who’ve completed at least 18 semester hours (or 18 quarter hours) at an accredited college or university. Since you are currently a senior in high school, you should probably apply as an undergraduate freshman, not a transfer student. Many freshman enter with AP or college credits. I suggest you work with your high school guidance counselor to determine the steps you need to take to ensure your college applications have complete academic and standardized testing records.
