Well there have been a ton of students on this board in the last couple of month looking at Pitt. I was wondering if those of you who chose Pitt could post it here and say why you chose it. I just want to see who made their final decision. And those of you whose were looking at Pitt but chose another school, could you also post here and say why? And if anyone wants to say that they applied to Pitt but were rejected or put on the waiting list, feel free to post as well.

My D chose Pitt because of the nursing program. It is one of the best in the nation; better than the ones in Ohio. Full tuition scholarship didn't hurt either. She didn't want to go too far from home so the 2 hour drive fits in pretty good.
She's a little apprehensive about the urban environment, but I think once she learns her way around and makes some friends she will love having all the opportunities Pittsburgh has to offer.

You can't go wrong with anything in the medical field at Pitt. The city environment isn't for everyone, but I'm sure she'll enjoy it. Keep us posted in the fall!

Oh, and for everyone that posts here, can you also say what other schools you applied to?

My D chose Pitt because she simply envisioned herself there over every other school we visited. She was sure she wanted a small liberal arts school but decided to visit Pitt just for comparison purposes. She fell in love with it that day because she feels the need to be near a big city with lots of options to keep her socially happy (i.e. ballgames, museums, phipps). She also felt it would academically challenge her. The other students she met during visitation day were kids she felt comfortable with and that was it for her. We didn't look anywhere else after that day. I am thrilled because she'll be close to home. I hope she brings plenty of OOS friends home to be fed a family dinner.

Good to hear, sophie4! Your daughter should have a lot of opportunities to make OOS friends. Last year's freshman class was 25% OOS and I think this year will be even more.

My choices were University of Colorado - Boulder, College of William and Mary, Penn State - University Park, and Pittsburgh. I am an international student so financial aid did not affect my choice (usually no financial aid for international students in public schools)... I chose Pitt in the end, mostly because of all the good things that Pat2323 (thanks ^^) and others from Pitt had to say about the school and the city.
The world rankings also contributed some; Pittsburgh is world #37 according to Newsweek - international prestige is important because I will most likely be finding work in Asia in the future. (College of William and Mary is a good school, yet it is unknown here in Asia.)

Yeah pigwalk, Pitt is definately a great school for international students. They really place an emphasis on global learning in all areas of study, and the school is well-respected around the world. You'll have a great time!

I chose Pitt because I loved everything about the Honors College and Dean Stewart. I loved the opportunities that Pitt offers for studying abroad and undergrad research. I also loved Pittsburgh, which I had never been to before I looked at Pitt.

Pitt has one of the country's top Honors Colleges, and you're right, the opportunitie there are limitless. Glad to have you as a Panther, dodgersfan21!
