Hello, fellow transfer applicants. It will probably be a while before this thread gets any traffic, but I thought I would get it started for anyone who wants to discuss things before decisions roll out in April/May.

Hey! I am applying to Smith. I’m not entirely 100% set on transferring out of my current school, but I’m applying to give myself the option because I feel like Smith may be better for me. Where are you currently attending?

I attend a reaalllyyy large, non-competitive public university.

At first, I had all these aspirations to attend Amherst College, but the more I learned about Smith through looking into the consortium, the more attached to it I became. If accepted, I will attend Smith without a second thought! I’m so anxious about everything. I just hope it all works out in the end.

You’re definitely not the only one; my stomach is turning at the thought of opening their decision. I think I’m a really good fit for Smith, but it’s a competitive school with a lot of excellent applicants. The waiting game is a tough one.
Hello, ladies! I also am a Smith transfer applicant for fall 2015. I can not even express my level of anxiety! Lol. I am currently attending a community college in the western Massachusetts area. I am applying as an Ada Comstock Scholar (mother of a four year old) and I can’t wait until decisions roll out!
I’m super nervous just like all of you! I’d like to think I’m a good fit, but who knows! All we can do is wait now. I’m at a fairly competitive private university and Am doing well there. Eeeep March 31st can’t come fast enough.
Hi. I am non-stop worried about my application. I was disappointed last year after applying as a transfer for Smith and a different college only in the end to be rejected. This year I applied for 4 and am just hoping to hear a yes from any of them - Smith being my most hopeful about.
What years are people applying into? I’m a junior applicant.
Hi, I’m also applying for transfer. I’m very anxious! I’m applying to 5 schools total and Smith is one of my top choices. I guess I’ll be a junior but I’m not certain how many of my classes will transfer (I’m at a CC in VA.)
I’m applying as a sophomore. The only other school I sent an application to is Mount Holyoke.
I’ve planned on applying here as a transfer since sometime near the end of my senior year in HS. I have ten months of anxiety on my chest about to culminate in one little letter… I’m constantly trying to reassure myself that I’ll get in, but historically, only 1/3 of transfers are admitted.
My stats are pretty much in the ball park: 4.0 GPA, 2050 SAT, decent AP scores and the same “heart for social justice and global change” that is in everyone’s transfer essay lol.
Hey @TiredQuibbler, I followed your earlier threads last summer/fall. How did you end up doing GPA-wise your first semester at college? Is that the 4.0? Also, I hope you were able to mention your Questbridge, etc awards in your app in some way. I’m rooting for you! Good luck!
Thank you for being so kind, @staceyneil! Yeah, I got a 4.0 last semester and had a 4.0 at the mid-year report as well. My HS GPA was only around 3.6 (unweighted). I just kind of put QB in the extra information box because I feel like that’s something that would interest Smith, even though it’s not a partner college. Actually, I’m surprised that Smith isn’t considering it has the highest amount of Pell Grant students of all top 20 LACs.
Does anyone know if Smith takes in a portion of sophomores and juniors or if your incoming classification is mostly meaningless?
The incoming classification is not meaningless. Smith’s first-year attrition rate is ~ 7%. It’s reasonable to assume that ~43 transfers will be admitted in order to have the optimal number of sophomore students.
There’s nothing wrong with your HS GPA…~30-35% of the enrolled first-years had a HS GPA of 3.6 or less. You were also in the top 10% of your class. That’s a positive! What’s more important is your 4.0 college GPA.
The admissions officers consider all pertinent information. QB awards are pertinent.
If there’s a woman who deserves to be admitted, it’s you. Good luck!
I’ve been fiddling around with Bannerweb… Is any one else able to click on the Pay/View Bill link in Banner? It sends me to another Smith site, with a “My Account” balance of $0… Is this a clue?? Maybe I’m reaching… Lol. But I’m hopeful.
I can’t get onto my Smith bannerweb with my colllege’s wifi- anyone else have this problem?
(also I had options to “get proof of enrollement” does that mean anything?)
