Prospective University of Washington, Winter 2016 transfers?

Hey guys, quick question. With your application, did you submit the degree planning worksheet as well?

@Leibnizzzzz Exactly!!! Not getting the exact degree I want is the only negative thing at UWS for me :frowning: I know many people who took Computer Science at a less competitive school and are doing just as good as those that took it at UWS though!

Question - did you all send in your SAT scores with your application? I didn’t because I know if you have 45+ credits you don’t have to but they had them in my records from the first time I applied and I’m wondering if they looked at them… I didn’t retake them because I knew I wouldn’t need to send them in as a transfer but didn’t know they’d still have my previous one :frowning:

@jameson992 The advisor I talked to basically told me that people who transfer from out of state have an 18% chance of getting in. His exact words, “UW is a great option but there are other great schools in the Seattle area that would be more than happy to have you.” He also told me that we are low priority. Last time I applied I didn’t get a notice in the mail that I had been rejected until a week after the “notice period.” I didn’t have a back up because I was told that I would be a great candidate for admission.

This time around, I have a back up school. I also have my appeal letter ready to be delivered. If you really want to go to UW, I would write an appeal letter and send it like ASAP.

@decoytag I heard about that low percentage of OOS… I feel like I should just go to my back up ;/

@decoytag @jp1993 Don’t give up guys! It’s not impossible, people on past threads have been OOS and got accepted! They just get noticed a bit later I believe.

On last year’s winter transfer thread the last transcript loading wave was November 14 :frowning: If it matches with this year - Monday’s wave was the last… (except for OOS applicants)

@Akeating I feel like barely anyone in here has been notified, am I the only one who feels that way…?

Besides foster students at least. The rest of us non foster students have only seen one wave of acceptance letters and based on the small population in this forum, it was a very small amount of people. I don’t know maybe I’m just in denial because Error message 500 is still going strong every time i check

@danigirl91 no I did not submit my degree planning worksheet. A few months ago I reviewed my submitted application and saw at the very end this degree planning worksheet so I emailed UW admissions office and asked them if we were supposed to send it in. They said no, it’s just there for us to see what we have completed and still need to complete. We were not supposed to send it in.

@Akeating I did send in my SAT scores with my application (I have over 90 credits) only because I took the SAT and figured I may as well. I went to a Transfer Thursday at UW and asked one of the guys at the UW admissions office if it was beneficial that I sent in my scores or if it would hurt me being that they are not incredibly high. The guy there said if you have over 45 credits, you do not need to send in your scores. If you do have over 45 credits and send in your scores, it will not hurt you, it will only help you. They basically just ignore your scores if you have over 45 credits but if you have excellent scores, they will use that to your advantage. (So if your scores are bad they just won’t pay attention to them). Since you sent in your scores in the past, they probably still have them on file I’m guessing but they shouldn’t hurt you at all.

Also, are you interested in any other major? If you are like me and really don’t think you can get into UWS’s Computer Science, UWS may cause you more problems than it’s worth unless there is another thing you would be interested in doing. I asked the academic counselor at UW what would happen if I don’t get into Applied Computational Math or Computer Science and she said I would either have to major in something else or transfer to another school, and transferring to another school after already attending UW is difficult…

@Akeating That’s what I noticed, but I really hope it will be different this year and there will be another batch uploaded sometime soon because like @dubsup mentioned, it does seem like it has mostly been Fosters applicants that have heard back. I think the kill date for acceptances will be Thanksgiving, trying to remember what someone reported back when the called the admissions officer. So I think we still might have a week to hope.

@dubsup Oh i didn’t know you’re still waiting! I feel like you, @snailshellz, and I are the only ones left waiting along with the OOS applicants :frowning: Maybe you’re right; there may be one more wave to come

@Leibnizzzzz Ahhh I see! Thanks for all the info! Makes me feel better about them

on UW’s Computer Science site it has a page for “what if you don’t get accepted” type information and it gives some alternative majors similar to Computer Science. Some of which I would not mind studying! Human Design Centered & Engineering and Informatics being some of them.
So have you completely decided not to go to UW already or are you still deciding? I don’t know you personally but I can tell you’ll flourish in any path you take! A Computer Science degree from anywhere is just as good as UWS’
My heart is really set on UW Seattle so I may settle for those alternatives.

@sonicnation95 @dubsup I personally feel like it’s the same amount of people as last year’s thread, although there are still more people waiting this year than last year’s one OOS user!
Biology and Econ majors were in that last wave & Leibnizzzzzz was a general admission’s applicant since she did not apply to her major either! (if i remember correctly)

I still have hope for us though!

@BillyReuben Congratulations by the way! I knew you’d get in

@akeating Maybe I’m just convincing myself that there weren’t as many, who knows lol. Would you consider applying for Summer? I believe it may be less competitive due to the time of the quarter.

Yup still waiting. Trying to talk to my adviser right now to see if she can point out any weak spots in my app. I agree that it is possible there may be another wave. This admissions cycle is definitely different from last year’s - there was a wave of Foster and then two waves of general admissions last year. So far we’ve had one Foster wave and one GA wave.

I’m done trying to analyze it though. An admissions counselor stated that waves of decisions, both acceptance and rejection, are sent out randomly through November. That’s pretty much all the reliable info we have.

Pretty sure it isn’t the last wave. One of the admission people just emailed me today saying I’m missing a transcript (I moved halfway through high school) and told me to send it in ASAP.

I’m fairly sure that all the speculation about “high priority” applicants or certain majors being first is just that – speculation. Foster folks are typically notified first, but perhaps just because the UW Foster students are notified early in November. Even that is speculation! We just don’t know the specifics and UW isn’t saying anything.

Omg great news @Liment thanks for updating us!

I mean, not great that your app is missing pieces, but so glad that they are still reviewing people!

So if they are reviewing people now, wth were they doing between Sept 1-now? Just twiddling their thumbs???

@sonicnation95 I’m not going to just because I’ll already be settled down with everything wherever I’m going after this quarter!

@Liment @snailshellz Thank the lord! We got this guys!
Was just speculating off of last year’s thread. Sorry all!

@Akeating I’m still nervous (practically to the point of tears!), but at least I am a little bit less nervous!!! Hoping for the best for both of us!!

I think this is the week that everybody has to be notified, taken that registration for us starts on Monday, the 23rd.

@Akeating when you say nov 14 is the last wave of transcript loading does that mean acceptance??
