I’m an out-of-state student … when do you guys think is the last deciding date for admissions? But congrats to everyone who got in!
I’m an OOS. My transcript loaded. I am waiting for my big envelope. <3
I don’t think it’s true that you have a better chance of getting in by applying as GA. I was told by one of the admission people that even if I don’t get accepted into my major I could still get accepted to UW.
@Akeating what were your stats :)?
@jp1993 3.5 Cumulative & 4.0 Business AA
90+ credits because i changed my major a lot!
I even submitted the wrong personal statement; I submitted the draft before my final product!
3.0 High school GPA, bad SATs.
@Leibnizzzzz Im choosing to go to UWS btw
@Akeating if you are planning to change your major to CS but you already have 90 credits towards a Business major, that could present a problem. UW has a “110 credit rule” where, if you have 110 or more credits, you must have a major declared. Getting into CS major requires the Calc sequence as well as CS 142 & 143, which would put you over 110 credits. So you may have to declare a different major before you can get into CS major, and a lot of majors have their own prereqs as well.
This is why UW so strongly prefers transfers who have already prepared for their major. They don’t have to deal with the “credit rule” and can proceed towards completing their major from their very first quarter at UW.
This is the issue @Leibnizzzzz is struggling with – he/she wants to get into the CS/ACMS major but already has 90 credits and is missing prereqs. Hopefully y’all can attend the A&O session and figure out if there’s some way you can still attend UW!
I’m not sure if UW allows exceptions on the 110 credit rule, but it’s possible.
That is my problem exactly. When I applied to UWS in August I was just planning to go into math, which wasn’t a problem cuz I already had calc done and other math classes. Just a few weeks ago I instead wanted ACMS and CS because I need those majors for what I want to become. So now I don’t have enough prereqs done to get into either of those.
I am still interested in learning whether or not I can get into the programs I want at UW with what I have, but I already have 115 credits and I believe my chances are very slim
@Akeating I hope you don’t run into that same problem, or if you do I at least hope you can eventually get into what you want. It wouldn’t be a bad idea to speak with an advisor about options. I’m so happy to hear you got in tho! I kept coming back on this site mainly because I was hoping you all would get in!
I am a she by the way
Got my letter!
GA (Pre-science) with complete prereqs for CSE, ACMS, Stats, and Math.
66 incoming credits
3.96 GPA/4.0 Major (CSE)
Transcript loaded on Tuesday, Congrats on Friday, Letter today (Saturday).
@UWthrowawayay I am jealous
Got my letter!
@snailshellz @Leibnizzzzz Don’t worry I’ve looked up and called about every problem I would have months ago haha. They make exceptions, especially with Running Start students (45+ credits from running start) & credits from summer classes. I already finished the calc series and only need the 2 CS classes. I’ve looked into everything; trust me :).
@Akeating Congrats! That’s weird that your transcript never loaded, that yielded much unnecessary transcript-checking, haha. Nonetheless, you’re in!!!
@Akeating what kind of exceptions do they make for Running Start students?! I got all my credits from Running Start, I just graduated high school last Spring
Hey guys, I just got my letter in the mail!
My transcript did not load like @Akeating so don’t stress too much if yours is not loading either!
@snailshellz Just an FYI, the rule is actually 105 credits for a required declaration of major, and only 90 lower division credits (or 135 in the case of other 4 year universities) will actually transfer so all transfer students have the equivalent of a quarter to declare a major.
My transcript just loaded today. To be clear, does a transcript loading always mean that you got in or have there been cases of transcripts loading but not getting in? Want to make sure before I make future plans.
@bluesloth it seems that everyone who has had their transcript load was admitted. In both last Winter’s thread and this Winter’s thread, everyone who has had their transcript load was admitted so congrats!
In addition, the transcript shows a student ID, which is good reason conclude you’re in. I would suggest not turning down offers of admission to any other school you may have applied for quite yet, however.
Great, wasn’t really expecting to get in to be honest. I didn’t have a ton of credits (~45 when I applied) and I threw together a relatively weak personal statement. I did have a solid community college GPA (3.9ish), but still wasn’t expecting to get in. Gonna have to make some new plans now.
@Akeating and your OOS too :D? Oh man I hope I’m accepted
And also what Readyandwaiting said; I know only 90 credits transfer.
@sonicnation95 Ahhhh Congratulations!! WE are in way to go!
@Leibnizzzzz UW says they want you to be there for like 2-3 years max when transferring but that can get extended if you talk to your adviser and such. I remember reading something about how they won’t count your Running Start and Summer credits in the max credits you can take over there or whatever!
@jp1993 Sorry no, not an OOS. Just saying that we have the same stats
