Prospective violinist

Hi! I'm curious about my chances at getting into Shepherd/Rice. Here's a bit about me:

33 composite ACT
A average, 3.96 GPA
Interlochen student
from Montana
Jewish
part Native American
also interested in drama, broadcast journalism, and poli sci

My high school courses will look like this:
4 years English
4 years math
3 years science
3 years history
3 years foreign language (Spanish)

What are my chances? Also, what does Rice have to offer me that I cannot get at BU, my other first choice? Thanks!

First off, no one can chance you on an audition based admission. You audition for a studio and if the studio accepts you and you are in target range of Rice you are accepted. You appear to be in target range so it is all about the studio and the audition. Only your own current teacher can tell you if you have a shot at Rice in auditions and which studio to try for. Maybe someone here who knows the studios can give you info. It is a very select conservatory and a wonderful environment combining a top university and select conservatory.

You should go over to the Music forum and look at the discussions re selecting a school for music. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/music-major/
