Prospective W&M student

Hiya! I'm a junior from NY, about a month ago my folks & I took a tour of W&M and I absolutely fell in love; this is definitely the place for me. I'm a little wary about applying early decision though, my family isn't exactly financially stable to commit to a school w/o knowing how much we'll have to pay, especially with two other kids headed to college in the next few years. W&M is for certain my first choice, I was wondering if my grades & ec's would be good enough though. I plan to study English literature & History. By the time I graduate I will have taken 7 AP's.
*World History (9th & 10th, 4 on the exam)
*US History (11th grade, yet to take but there's a 99.9% chance I'll get a 5)
*English Language & Composition (11th grade, yet to take exam)
*Psychology (12th Grade)
*Environmental Science (12th Grade)
*European History (12th Grade)
*English Literature

I took the SAT in March, I got a 1690 (600 critical, 570 writing, 520 math) & plan to take it again in June. I'll also be taking the US & World History SAT 2 tests.
I was recently inducted into the English Honor Society & soon the History Honor Society. Next year I'll be running a non-fiction book club for the history society. I've been treasurer of the Gay-Straight Alliance for the past 2 years, member of the:
Academic Team (11th Grade onward)
Physics Olympics (11th Grade onward)
Book Club (10t Grade onward)
Anti-Bullying Club (9th Grade onward)
Stage Crew (9th grade onward, next year I will be co-stage manager and head of lighting)
Orchestra (Violin player since 4th grade)

I'm a member of Teen Friends of the Library, I tutor elementary students there about 2-3 times a week. Last year I was chosen as a volunteer for Authors Unlimited out of hundreds of other applicants across Long Island. I volunteer at a Media Arts Center as well, screening independent films. Any advice on how to make myself a stronger applicant would be greatly appreciated!

Ooh, forgot to mention that I’m in the process of trying to start up a Quidditch team at my school

Granted we all have different activities and passions, and you’ve shown more commitment to activities than I did…you may want to work on your SAT score particularly because you’re from out of state. I’m from in-state and applied with a 660 reading 610 math 690 writing, and I was denied. You really can’t predict admission because of the holistic review process and the amount of factors that go into a decision, but you can look at raw data. Here’s a link from W&M about SAT scores and their middle 50%: http://www.wm.edu/admission/undergraduateadmission/faqs/testing/index.php

I hope that helps you out! I’m no college admissions counselor, but I know it’s a lot harder to apply from out of state and getting into that middle 50% might really help you out.

Another factor that people sometimes do not think about is the M/F admit rates. WM has a lot more females apply then males - from the Common Data Set 2013 - the admit rate for F was 28.8% but 40.8% for M. WM tries very hard to keep a balance between the M/F ratio - so they admit a higher percentage of the M applicants.

Secondly, I would agree with the above poster. You will have to work hard on your SAT scores - middle 50% last Common Data Set was 1890 to 2180.
