Prospects of Admission for a Gap Year Student

Hey,

I am currently taking a gap year because last year I did not get into my dream colleges, and the colleges I got into did not provide me with sufficient financial aid. I recently took the SATs again and I got 2090 on it, my break-up being MA-740, WR-720, and CR-630.
I scored rather poorly in my high school exams, so my transcripts in Class XI and XII are not at all good. I have a good background in the community service I have done in school through the four years of High School.
Should I consider applying to the good colleges? Or should I stick with applying to rather mediocre colleges which might give me some form of financial aid?

Thanks!

You need at least one safety that you know you will be admitted to with sufficient financial aid and/or scholarships to make it affordable. Obviously, your previous application list did not have such a school.
