Hey I was just wondering BC being a Jesuit University and all about Protestants on campus. Approximately how many people are Protestant? Do they face any sort of discrimination or are offended by any university procedure?

Boston has a large Irish population but as far as I know the IRA is not active on campus as far as I know so you'd be ok. (that was a small joke)

I think it's like Georgetown, if not a tad more. There is a Jesuit presence but it isn't overwhelming.

Judging from the BC website, there are campus ministries for many other denominations/religions:
http://www.bc.edu/offices/ministry/other_faiths/

From what I can tell, BC is the only Jesuit school with an Episcopal chaplain--and its a woman--pretty cool, since I'm Episcopalian :)

I'm Episcopalian as well. I'm from NY, which is predominantly Catholic too, but I've heard that Boston and Boston College aren't Protestant friendly

I'm a very serious protestant but BC's jesuit nature doesn't really bug or intimidate me. They don't seem to force catholicism and although a vast majority of people there wouldn't agree with me about religion, I don't see myself being discriminated against at all...

I live near Boston so I know a LOT of kids who go to BC.
Yes, it's a Jesuit school, but it's not obnoxious about it, meaning they do not exclude non-Catholics. They like to accept people of various backgrounds/ethnicities/religions just to try to shake their reputation as a big, white, Catholic school.

Also from the Boston area and I know Jewish and Protestant kids who attend BC and love it. BC really embraces the Jesuit ideal of service to others and I don't know a single religious group that doesn't embrace those ideals.

I will admit that my son was greatly amused by a sign he saw when we were there: "Jesuit parking only". He really wanted to add "Baptists will be towed" to it, but I talked him out of it.

tjmom - Cute idea! Your son should have done it! My D is very protective of "her" Jesuits!

Bear in mind, it is a CATHOLIC school. And while you will certainly not be discriminated against in any way, if you find the presence of Catholicism on campus offensive, you should go elsewhere.

My son's tour guide at BC said that he was an Episcopalian and said he loved BC.

Just don't wear orange on St. Patrick's day. Seriously.

George W. Bush's sister graduated from B.C. which suggests it is OK for protestants though some may think this make BC not OK for other reasons.

Are you serious about the orange. I am actually half Asian half Scotch-Irish (Irish Protestant)
