Protestantism and Catholicism

Which is better or most Legitimate and why?

Any personal views or just anything at all.

As a recent convert to the faith, I would have to say that Catholicism is where it's at. Very simply -- I don't have the time to really get into this, which could easily take pages -- the Catholic Church was founded by Jesus Christ 2,000 years ago and spread through His Apostles. Protestantism, on the other hand, only came about some 400 years ago... and largely because an English King (Henry VIII) wanted a divorce and the Pope wouldn't give his blessing, so the monarch effectively said "screw you" and started his own Church.

For me, Catholicism is the absolute fullest expression of Christianity. All other forms of Christianity are lacking in some way -- some a little bit (Eastern Orthodoxy, Anglicanism, Lutheranism), others very much so (fundamentalist movements like Jehovah's Witnessism and Seventh-Day Adventistism).

Why is Christianity such a violent and imperialist religion?

Christianity is not violent and imperialistic.

Is Christianity itself "violent" and "imperialist," or have Christians been violent and imperialist? I don't know about you, but I personally don't judge religions based upon the acts of people who go against their teachings.

Read the New Testament, particularly the Gospels, and show me where you find calls to violence and imperialism.

Go Protestantsssssss.

"Why is Christianity such a violent and imperialist religion?"

I'm not even Christian and you come across as an offensive prick. Back up your claims with facts, until you can do that stick to pretending you understand politics.

okay, just saying something quick... correct me if I am wrong:

Protestantism started because of the corrupt nature of the Catholic church, not Henry VIII's annulment (That was Anglican and the Church of England).

Anyway, Luther didn't intend to take the Reformation to the level in which it was, only to fix the corrupt nature of the Church...

Now, choosing which is best truely depends on the person you are, so really saying which is best is an opinion.

Personally, I would go with Protestantism though.

Neither--Orthodoxy all the way! ;-)

lol I'm Greek Orthodox...

Some people consider that "Protestant" lol.. i don't get why though

Whatever works for you. I don't think anybody really has the right to say, "You have to be Catholic!" or, "You have to be Protestant!" or whatever else.

Church structures (religions) are mostly political organizations, imo.

Not to be confused with genuine spirituality.

It is of course possible to find genuine spirituality in a religion, but the religion itself is not necessarily a spiritual path.

So the idea that the Catholic religion is the 'true faith' because Jesus supposedly founded it, is, imo, illogical. He founded a spiritual path. It BECAME a political structure.

I'm a 'recovering Catholic,' btw.

Henry the VIII and his divorce had nothing to with Protestants. His divorce sprung up the Act of Restraint and the Act of Supremecy. Lindsey is right about Luther. The Protestants recieved their name from the Diet of Speyer (I think this is the right Diet) because they stood outside protesting.

I'm neither of those religions but if one finds peace in having faith in either of them then which one is more "legit" or not doesn't really matter.

Physics is God. :)

Hmmm...physics is your religion, eh? Check out the 'Seeking Physics scholars' thread.

Justify what happened in Africa and South America during the Age of Imperialism, and the role Christianity played.

I think the point is that either way we are Christians, and it is not where we choose to worship or pray, but how we live our lives. And yes the Catholic Church was messed up and some chose to break away and some chose to weather through...personal choice, not right or wrong. having an Irish heritage I see nothing to gain from bidding "prods against papists" but heartache and hate. Follow Jesus' path through a Christian lifestyle and pray and gather in community where you feel welcome.

Why would you justify something that's wrong, dunce?

I think someone is having a hard time differentiating between people and religion.

when ever I tell a protestant that I’m catholic, I hate it when say "its ok were not all perfect" or another smug comment like that. Aw, it irks me so bad.
