I thought we could have a thread where we could gather everyone's audition experiences. Help us know what expect. Did they do anything in a special order? what kind of space was it in? was it all done at once? how did you get ready before the dance edition? what on earth do you do with your music binder when you walk in? etc etc

Happy New Year!! I hope the year brings exciting news for everyone.

hey,

I have posted reviews of my auditions at syracuse, uarts and ithaca in each of those schools forums if you want to check them out. I totally know what you mean though, it is so hard to walk into an audition not knowing what to expect, and each of the three auditions ive had so far have been a little different! I'm sure the next four will be too.

Here's what I can tell you about your specific questions from the three I have done:

-All my auditions were in studios (acting, dance or vocal), small rooms with anywhere from 1-3 people (sometimes a current student sits in)
-Ithaca and UArts had us do monologues and songs in separate rooms, and Syracuse had us do it in the same room (we could choose which we did first)
-At Syracuse and UArts (Ithaca does not have a dance audition), we danced first. We had time to change into and out of our dance clothes, though at Syracuse it was quite rushed, and at Uarts, more relaxed.
-Again, syracuse was more rushed and we had little time to stretch, but at UArts we had a warm up
-When i walked into the rooms, i introduced myself and went over to the pianist and gave them my music. If you are acting first, you could set your music down on the floor by the piano, that's where I put my water bottle.

If you have any more specific questions, feel free to ask me. I am not by any means an expert, but I am more than willing to share what I do know!

Where/when are you auditioning? I still have Fredonia, Emerson, BoCo and Carnegie Mellon left. Good luck and Happy New Year!

I was very relaxed that day despite the fact that i left my clothes in the room, missed the bus to the drama dept., and had the speed walk with my dad there..lol. Besides that, the actual audition was very relaxed. For me, it was extra relaxed because I went to Summer College in 2005 at Syracuse for Musical theater so i was very familiar witht he space and even knew the guy who did the dance audition. We danced first, then they gave us reasonable time to change(i didnt have much changing to do) and i was the first person called to audition (just my luck) in rm 2. (There were 3 rooms) I sang both songs first and then did a monologue. They stopped me in the process of doing my monologue and told me to start over. They OFTEN do this to make note of how well the student adjusts and if the student got nervous or not. [I guess its a good thing cuz i got in..lol] BUt anways, they gave me corrections and made me sit down at a table with them [3 judges] and made me recite my monologue once more..lol. I was good i guess.

Wow, that seems like such a different experience than I had at Syracuse! I felt super rushed and not very welcomed at my syracuse audition (I auditioned in Nov, but not for ED so I don't know if I'm in or not). When did you audition?

It is always good to hear others reports and various points of view, because it really is different for everyone! Congratulations on getting in, it must be really nice to know so early in the year :)

I auditioned on Nov.10.
