Providence College vs. Boston College

I've recently been accepted to both of these colleges and I have no idea how to choose between them. Obviously BC has a great reputation, but it also has a great price tag. PC is a gorgeous school and is good academically but does not quite measure up to BC. In the long run will that matter though?

I was accepted into the Biology programs at both schools, so that didn't help to narrow down the decision. My goal is to attain my DVM one day and I'm not sure what school would help me to achieve that. Will one have a much greater effect than the other?

Ontop of all of this, I've applied to 15 schools, and have been accepted to nine of them with scholarships ranging from 6,000 a year to 15,000 a year. Is it worth it at all to consider these two schools when they are so expensive?

both PC & BC are excellent schools, BC has added advantage of being near Boston with
excellent public transportation.
BC is run by the Jesuits, PC by Franciscans I think?
BC is larger…My daughter loved her experience there, has an excellent fulltime job at Georgetown now and has very close, lifelong friends she met as a transfer to BC.
My GC says PC is a “party school” but there are plenty of opportunities to party at BC too. BC is VERY demanding academically and requires good focus, yet also has a football stadium steps from the dorms for weekend fall fun! Good luck…

As a current student at Providence College I will advise you and give you my perspective.

First go where ever you get the most money. If you got a larger amount of money at PC than BC where it makes a significant difference come here.

Second is the fit. You really need to go where your persomality fits. PC is a very wealthy preppy school with little diversity. BC is similar but they have a bit more diversity because of their aid policies and reputation.

I was accepted to many prestigious institutions and PC gave me the most money. I feel academically it’s extremely rigorous and VERY demanding with our DWC mandated program you are required to read a book a week in the program.

Our faculty is what makes the school. Many of my professors have graduated from harvard yale stanford Oxford and Cambridge, for both their grad and undergrad degrees. You are able to have close relations with faculty members and there is always help at PC, there’s a department for everything. Not to mention that all of our facilities are renovated and state of the art.

I could easily transfer out of PC with my 3.9 GPA but I wouldn’t because the quality of education is excellent. Moreover our bio department is the BEST. I would not even over exaggerate that. All of our bio faculty members comes from MIT, brown and harvard. We have joint programs with Columbia and Brown too.
