I was accepted to my top two schools Providence College and College of the Holy Cross. I like Providence a little more, but with financial aid, Holy Cross is a little under $12,000 a year while Providence is a little over $22,000 per year. Do you think its worth it to go with the school I like more, even though it is more expensive or go with the cheaper school? (I really do love Holy Cross and would be happy with going there, but I just like Providence more).
Holy Cross is an excellent school.
Can you afford the more expensive school?
Holy Cross parent here, so obviously I am biased! What are the things you like better about Providence? You should go to accepted students day at both and see how you feel then. But imo, HC is hard to pass up for the reputation, the community and connections, the relationships formed with professors, and in your case the price tag.
They have similar reputations/academics and probably share a lot more in terms of campus culture than you realize. I would go with the cheaper option.
Holy Cross !
Check their Wikipedia pages and see who has more famous alumni
I would not want my student to pay $40K more for PC than HC unless their intended major was served significantly better at PC. Holy Cross has a much better reputation although I personally prefer Providence to Worcester. Pick the five top things that matter to you: academics, major, location, housing, etc. and use a point system. But that $40K, unless easily paid by your parents, should be a major consideration.
Really depends on what you want to study. If it’s business, Providence has a business school but HC, as a liberal arts college (admittedly with an accounting program) does not. In the end, both great schools, you can’t go wrong. Less debt is always good, but if it means not pursuing the type of degree you want, then the savings isn’t worth it.
Thanks everyone for your input! I’m currently undecided and I think I would thrive at either school. I’ve decided to go to Holy Cross!
Great choice! The academics at Holy Cross are rigorous but from your previous threads, with your high GPA, class rank and many AP’s you will fit in well with the other serious and focused students. Welcome to The Hill and congrats!
^ replace”but” with “and” -that’s what I meant to say. Lol
