I was just accepted as a transfer applicant. I am from NYC, and while I understand that Providence is much smaller, I am currently visiting Brown and have been impressed so far. My question is how often do students descend the hill into downtown? I could see myself going downtown almost every day, but my friend at Brown told me he rarely does. At my current school, the main town is a further walk from my dorm than the walk from Brown to downtown, so walking down doesn’t seem like that big a deal to me, even if Thayer is so much closer.

I go to downtown every couple of weeks if I can, more if I need the mall. I also go to federal hill on occasion as well as south main street. Wickenden St. more often. I don’t visit Wayland Square as much. I’ve been to Warwick a few times and Pawtucket once. Providence is really more than just the city of the Providence. The bad thing about walking back from downtown is the hill but you can take a bus or trolley for free if they are running when you are down there. I’m not sure why one would NEED to go downtown every day though unless one just loves being around taller buildings.

It varies from group to group. I can easily see being down there every day and hanging around, the bad part is there is very little street food kind of stuff which keeps me up by the Hill more often when I’m just walking around aimlessly.
