Scanning over applications now as D19 is getting ready to apply and I see that most ask if you want to provide a cell with permission to text. Does your child plan to provide this? What are the benefits? For all tours and info requests, we have always just provided our landline number so that her cell does not blow up with messages and/or calls. However, now that she is in the application stage I am wondering if we should rethink this. She’s applying to 12 schools. Thanks!
We used my kid’s cell phone on all the applications and I don’t ever think there was one phone call related to college.
On the other hand, I had my cell phone out there on the job boards and from passing out my resume to all the unscrupulous recruiters, and now I get the IRS and Microsoft scam and spam calls every day. Nomorobo does a good job of filtering most of them, but I still get about one per day.
I think you might as well add the cell number. I have never been contacted on my cell until I was accepted into the schools and I received safety update texts which I appreciated and could be really important in the future.
What’s a landline? ![]()
Seriously though, I provided my cell number on applications and had no issues with my phone blowing up.
I think the only time DC had the cell phone number called was to offer a place off the WL. It was nice for him to get that call rather than have it come to the house phone.
