Providing I can find a friend to keep it for me, What kind of dog should I get?

At this point in your life it would be cruel to own a puppy. A puppy need TONS of attention, and love and leaving it alone in a house for more than a few hours would hurt it mentally. I agree with those who have said you should wait a year until you live off campus.

i did read that part actually, and that just made it worse. Please listen to everyone and wait a year, volunteer with an animal shelter so you can learn about caring for them. Maybe you'll even meet a dog there you end up adopting when you have time for it.

I used to think that if you got into Wharton you must be smart. but after this I'm not so sure. You should never, ever own a dog.

So intelligence = knowing everything about puppies? Thanks for the replies everyone and I'll hold off on a puppy. I didn't know about all the care they needed. Thanks for being a total jerk though kramer I better study up on some puppy books if I ever wanna be smart under your criteria. Saying I should never own a dog is quite absurd too. I'll just wait until I can give it 100% of my time. Thanks to everyone else though.

futurewhartonman,
You sound like a nice person who was able to take well some thoughtful advice.

If you have any free time, I hope you will volunteer at an animal shelter. Typically, they are delighted to have people willing to do things like walk dogs and do other things to make life more comfortable for the animals. That would be a wonderful way for you to begin fulfilling your desire to interact with a dog, and you'd also learn a lot about dogs in the process.

Since you're interested in Wharton, you also might want to start a pet sitting or pet walking business. That's might strengthen your application while allowing you to have fun while learning about dogs.

I also agree that it would be a good idea for you to volunteer at an animal shelter. It would teach you a lot about caring for a dog, so that when you finally do get one you can give it the best home possible. And who knows, maybe you'll just fall in love with a dog there.
